Do Lower Taxes Win Wars?
NoneSuch
- I was semi-involved on a very thought-provoking IRC conversation tonight. It had to do with why Hungary is such a superpower and why Hungary could possibly take the eUS single-handedly. It has to do with a quickly dying American and eAmerican institution, capitalism.
- Stronger Citizens - My main point!
- As far as I can tell, the stronger your citizen is, the more of an effect you have in a battle, correct? And where do the more experienced, thus stronger, citizens prefer to be in eRep? I think it's safe to assume that the eUS isn't one of the more popular locations. With 30% taxes, increasing VATs, and horrible leadership, is it any wonder all of our experienced players are leaving the country? NO!
- My point? Lower Taxes = Stronger, wealthier, more influential citizens! This is my the focus of my article!!! Lower these taxes and get our elites back! They fight for the fun of the game, not because it's their job. They do awesome damage regardless of gov't funding!!!
- These same people are actually attacking the eUS as I write this!
- Weapon Distribution -
- So what's better... tanks or mobs? Conceptualizing isn't going to fool anyone here, so I'm going to do some math!
- I'm using the cheapest weapon prices on the eUS market and using the 50USD=1Gold conversion rate.
- Let's assume Publius(The #3 eUS citizen) is our tank. He's has 15.748 strength and is a field marshall. If he is at 100 wellness using a Q1 weapon, he will do 171 damage. Let's then say he uses 40 wellness packs, fights 40 times, and uses 40 Q1 weapons. That's 6840 total damage. In Gold, 40 Q1 weapons and 40 wellness packs costs us 85.88 Gold. That's 79.6 Dmg/Gold. Using 40 Q2's it would be 93.44 Gold and cause 8000 damage. So Q1=79.6 Dmg/Gold. Q2=85.6 Dmg/Gold. Q3=89.2 Dmg/Gold. Q4=92.1 Dmg/gold Q5=80 Dmg/Gold
- Now let's assume a noob, with 3 strength, no rank, uses those same Q1 weapons for 5 fights, with wellness deteriorating each fight starting from 100 wellness. That's 67 damage total. It only costs him 0.735 Gold. That's 91.2 Dmg/Gold.
- So what can we derive from those numbers? That a person with 3 strength can be just as effective as the eUS's strongest tank. I'm not saying that we rely on noobs, I'm saying that we stop "tanking", reduce the VAT on weapons, lower income taxes, and let the eUS populous do their thing. And keep in mind that the 3 strength thing was just illustrating the lowest strength needed to make tanking obsolete. If you have above 3 strength, you're more cost efficient than the eUS's strongest tank and en masse can do more damage!
- If half the average eUS population fought ONCE at 50 wellness with a q1 weapon, that's 128k damage!!! If they were all at 100 wellness, which they should be because we have 3 Q5 hospitals, after a SINGLE FIGHT they would have do a total of 179.5k damage!!!
- Freedom and the GDP -
- With lower taxes you can raise your wellness faster, start up your company faster, and buy more of everything! With people starting up more companies and buying more things at the same time, prices really won't fluctuate that much, but the GDP drastically improves. More product is made, more product is bought, the GDP goes up.
- Just An Opinion -
- Please keep in mind that this is just opinion. I'm sure that there are many flaws in this article, but whatever. Comment, flame, vote, hate, do what you want.
- HR -
- Lol, I hate you

You are assuming that tanks fight with Q1's. That's just illogical.
HR read the whole thing. I did the math for EVERY quality of weapon
We need a 5-page essay on this, but this is a good starter.
Wow, very good points but I doubt the eUS will ever adopt a logical war strategy. After all, the eUS is doing just fine in its current war right?
I liked this article, largely because NoneSuch used great examples to illustrate his point.
Also, Publius isn't necessary one of our *best* tanks. People like Archibald are. Emerick is. 300+ per hit or close.
This is, however, a good primer with good facts for discussion. I cringe when I say "good job" NS.
I have no relation to anyone who has already commented on this article, but I think it is great.
Voted, people want to be where the money is.
This begs the question: Do the citizens spend their money or sit on it?
As far as I know, pre-20% taxes we sucked. Post, we rocked (in comparison). If we didn't have 20% taxes for the past.. what.. handful of months, we'd be screwed. Nonesuch, as the N in PANEC, you should know this, right?

Lets take it there.
Good article.
Yes, I do know this. But I've never been pro-tank. What the EC wanted when they first proposed this plan was 25% taxes. I managed to cut it down to 20% by cutting a few costs. I'm a VERY conservative person.
Discussing this on the forums to attempt to avoid peace trolls~
We shouldn't just rely on regular fighters, though. Having funds available to support tanks, if necessary, is certainly a good idea. But we should certainly focus more on getting our average citizens to fight more effectively, and keep the tanking stuff as a strategic reserve for when it's necessary to use them.
That means doing doing more than just printing articles (and reusing articles) that say "fight in California" or wherever. It means checking through the battle logs and seeing people who are fighting in the wrong place, then having someone contact them directly. Or, for that matter, checking where they live so that that issue can be addressed as well.
There's other things as well, but I need time to think about them.
AHHH YEAH NONESUCHONIMICS!
If half the average eUS population fought ONCE at 50 wellness with a q1 weapon, that's 128k damage. Just so you all know.
Once again, these kinds of figures ignore that it is easier to organize a few tanks than it is to try to get the two-click population to fight in the right region. You must always take into consideration administrative costs and difficulty.
Ha, no one can deny my main point though, that we're losing citizens and that they are actually fighting against the eUS as we speak.
It is hard to imposibble to give weapons to so many soldiers that is why at the end of the batte tanking is more effective. Both strategies should be used
I'm not sure I get the point. You say the "elites" are leaving because taxes are high. Then you show math that suggests we don't need them anyway because regular citizens are more cost effective than taking elites.
How will lowering taxes, but then not funding tanking, convince the tanks to come back? Even the most elite citizens are not making enough money to tank on their own funds, regardless of tax rate.
I've also noticed a trend when I look at some of the highest damage producers in-game. A lot of them don't have any hard worker medals. This show me that they think doing massive damage is more fun than getting a wage. This suggests that funding more tanks would be a better lure than lowering taxes to get high-damage citizens back.
"we're losing citizens and that they are actually fighting against the eUS as we speak."
Correlation 😕= Causation
i agree with NoneSuch when he said our elites are leaving.
many eUSA citizens also do not read the DoD Daily Orders and aimlessly attack when they should focus on one area..
and i also agree when he said our lower level citizens are effective, but the lack the weapons to attack effectively.
Good luck distributing weapons to all those noobs, without making someone go insane and steal all your money, or just snap and quit...the whole, noobs do better than Tanks argument is great only in a hypothetical. Who's going to get them the guns. Sure you can say hey...he can buy it himself...but most 3 str people don't make .7 gold per day...I'm 12.5 strenth and I make less than .2 gold per day...
Hungary and Indonesia both tank, they don't give out guns to noobs. You basically hit the nail on the head on why we're better. Our system seems to discourages experience, our players leave, or quit, Indonesia's and Hungary's system don't.
on why they're better*
I started as a US player.
After scraping by for a month on low wages and crippling taxes, it became clear to me I needed to try something else.
I moved to Spain, and didn't feel bad about it. A US ally, and I worked for a company that sold iron to the US.
I was soon making .7 gold a day, which was taxed at a low rate.
I bought a good house, an org, and a newspaper, and all the weapons I wanted. My employer never questioned where I fought, just as long as I came back and didn't miss work.
I came home to fight in the Airborne once this all started. But I wouldn't have even qualified for the Airborne, except I used my Spanish wages to buy guns and fight where I wanted, when I wanted. Climbing the ladder in the US, I never would have made the rank requirement for the Airborne.
If you're wondering about the French flag in my profile, I have had the honor of being elected to the French Assembly. Long story, but I'm trying to get fired now so I get back to the US and fight.
And if they won't fire me, I'm proposing the impeachment of the President of France. 😉
JBB
So where should I move?
Obviously the eUSA doesn't want me, since they're trying to tax me to death.
Hungary is a good option downzero, low taxes and a successful economy.
the proof is in the fact that every eUSA citizen is fighting weaponles while there is TONS of weapons available for sale on the market. what does that mean? it means there's wasted firepower because taxes are raping us all.
This administration sucks and these taxes are losing the war.
