The Rearden Revolution! -- PRESIDENTIAL PLATFORM --
![Canada](http://www.erepublik.net/images/flags_png/S/Canada.png)
Alexander Rearden
My Fellow Canadians, Our Nation has grown from small tight-knit clique of people to a large and diverse community. I come before you today as witness of this change and with the desire to continue the growth and development of our nation as a whole. I have been an eCanadian for nearly a year having served Canada in various positions for 8 months starting as a junior congressmen from the Norsefire Party of the late Adam Sutler to one of the most senior Minister's in Cabinet. In that time I have put my all into helping Canada rise from a backwater to a nation, proud and strong. I would like to give more, to accomplish this I am running for Prime Minister of Canada in the upcoming elections.
I bring my hard won experience, and a clear vision of how Canada should progress into this 19th month of this New World. I want to bring my vision to Canada as a whole as I have done with the economy. For those of you that have been around you have witnessed the improvement - the rise in prosperity for all Canadians in the past 6 months of my tenure. I can proudly say that I among others, have been at the vanguard of the economic prosperity we now have. It may not be perfect for all people, but the Canadians of today is better off than they were 6 months ago. Enough of the past it is time for the future.
The most radical portion of my Platform of Progress is my call for a new Constitutional Convention.
The current constitution doesn't work with the game, the level of cohesion between how the game works and the constitution is insufficient. Congress, the cabinet, and the judicial branch lack the definition they need to continue. We are using a Beta era constitution from a community of a dozen key players, that can't work in a Boomer dominated community of hundreds of very active members.
Before I get into what key concepts I want to address in this new Constitution I would like to discuss how I envision its creation. A new forum area will be created, at first only accessible to current Congressmen who have served more than one term, along with cabinet and the Supreme Court Justices. This key group will help lay the foundation of the document. On the day of the midterm of my mandate I will open those forums to the public allowing every Canadian Citizen to debate the constitution. By the end of the month I would like to see a copy go before Congress to be passed with a 75% majority. I will also demand my successor (if I am not re-elected) hold a public vote requiring a 60% approval, at which point we bring it to the eRepublik Admins as a binding contract.
To accomplish this I will appoint a Constitutional Secretary. This persons jobs is to organize people's ideas and oversee a new area of the forum where each topic/article/section is being discussed. They will also work with Myself and others to implement the ideas presented by congress and later the general public. This person will have the authority to delegate their duties as they see fit. The Constitution Secretary will also be encouraged to hold polls to see the general consensus on drafts for different Articles of the Constitution.
Issues that will be addressed will include:
Admin-Government relations: A bill of rights for administrators and moderators as one of the senior Forum Administrators I will draft an article outlining the rights of Forum and IRC Admins in relation to the eCanadian government. It will increase the power of the eCanadian government over these administrations while still retaining the overall neutrality that should be inherent in the job of Administrator.
Military Code of Conduct: The military Code of Conduct has largely been outdated and needs serious revisions to deal with real scenarios that can occur within the CAF. Making this part of the constitution will make it easily accessible and far more authoritative in dealing with the Canadian Armed Forces.
The role of Cabinet ministers: Examining the role of MoF in handling the nations finances and its involvement with Congress. As well as whether or not a confirmation process should occur for Cabinet level positions to prevent cronyism and inept cabinet members who endanger the security and efficiency of the eCanadian government.
The rights of Citizenship: In regard to PTO's and persons like Kharchy who were once part of a TO but are now contributing members of Congress. Or other infamous persons such as Adam Sutler and Dean22 and the nature of their citizenship. Enumerating the powers of congress in regards to determining citizenship.
These are but a handful of ideas I have and I am sure just a tiny fraction of what our Congress and Cabinet can create within the first half of a Rearden term.
But what about running the government that we already have?
We face a number of important decisions as a nation especially in the area of Foreign Affairs. I have been watching the debates in congress regarding Canada's future closely and I will assemble a crack team of Canadian Foreign Affairs veterans including the current Prime Minister Bruck as National Security Adviser. His foreign affairs experience is unmatched and his connections will be invaluable in deciding our course of action.
Regarding the economy, I have not chosen a potential successor yet. However they will have a strong knowledge of our current economic goals and the policies we use to obtain them. We will not take large steps in changing the current economic system, unless something major happens. We will work to insure that Canada's best and brightest can operate their companies with some level of profit. We shall ensure Canadians have access to inexpensive goods across all quality ranges and can earn a wage that can lead to greater wealth. The monetary market will be watched very carefully with the goal of preventing large currency value shifts but leaving enough volatility for Canadians to make a profit and increase their own net worth.
The Military Supply Chain will receive an overhaul, the details of which will be developed by my administration and enacted within the first week of my mandate. The goal will be to strike a balance between security and efficiency, centralization and decentralization. It is a lofty goal with a tough deadline but my administration will get it done and ready for congressional approval in 7 days.
I will work with my Foreign Affairs Team to insure a steady stream of military training battles are available, and will put pressure on increased awareness of these battles.
Lastly, I will institute a weekly State of the Nation address where I, and my minister's, say what we have been up to. Including the latest developments and the like. No more Minister of Information to slow the process down, simply me getting a weekly update from my ministers plus what I have done.
The Canadian government has long been dominated by key individuals, it always will be, however, by keeping people informed of ministerial actions and opening up the Constitutional Convention to the public at mid term people can get involved.
Let us enter a new period in Canada, one where the rule of law and the rules of the game work together to insure justice, liberty and prosperity.
Thank you,
Minister of Finance Alexander Rearden.

Great speech Alex.
This is welcome news to hear. All the best!
booooo lol 😛
Good Luck AR
Yeah, good read. If whomever is pres has this kind of tenacity, there may actually be some hope in getting my kids back.
Woo! Love it.
GASP 😮
good luck
First Blood! I'll give you a nod to being the first to get out a platform. Here come the rest.
I WONDER IF AR_SLAYER IS PLANNING A RESPONSE? 🙂
"My Fellow Canadians, Our Nation has grown from small tight-knit clique of people to a large and diverse community."
Run by a tight-knit clique of people.
Aren't all nations in the real world like that? I would say 450 people is pretty tight knit (Senate, House, President, Supreme Court)to run a nation of 330 something million.
Alexander Rearden is self-imposed smartman without any clear clue as to how to run your country. Do not trust this pretentious idiot, abstain your vote from this atrocity against humanity.
"the rise in prosperity for all Canadians in the past 6 months of my tenure"
Except the grain sellers and their employees (unless we're counting foreign grain companies).
"will work to insure that Canada's best and brightest can operate their companies with some level of profit". - I don't even have to comment on this one.
"Regarding the economy, I have not chosen a potential successor yet."
- With this comment, apparently you feel it is up to you, rather than the duly elected representatives of our nation.
"The Canadian government has long been dominated by key individuals"
- Perhaps its time for the citizens to change that.
Again, big talking points without any merit.
AR did surprise me a bit with this; I expected something a bit more reactionary from him knowing how much of a revolutionary I am, take that as a compliment); though it is far far too moderate for my taste 😉 I'm not yet decided on my faith in you fulfilling the promises, but the substance of your platform is relatively good, though far from being comprehensive enough.
And just for old-time's sake: DOWN WITH THE ESTABLISHMENT!!!!!!!!
Love you too Yonsil 🙂
"'Regarding the economy, I have not chosen a potential successor yet.'"
- With this comment, apparently you feel it is up to you, rather than the duly elected representatives of our nation."
He *is* allowed to pick his own cabinet if he wins, man. There is no vote on that. If he wins (which I hope he does) he will have to pick his successor for MoF.
I'm pumped; Canada can use a philosopher king. 🙂
😃
"Canada can use a philosopher king."
We'd prefer someone with less ego, and more knowledge of macroµ economics. We continually see debates in eCanada boards about problems with government funding, taxes, etc. It seems to us, that the current strategy is based on a crapshoot. His comments regarding 'pumping up the grain industry' show a lack of economic insight.
The grain industry provides jobs and pay for Canadians, and income taxes. Letting it fail because foreign companies can afford to dump large amounts of cheap grain on our markets, and take their profits back to their countries are ridiculous. Low grain wages keep wages down in all land industries and income taxes down for Canada. Simply raising income tax rates, and not solving the underlying market problems is a recipe for failure.
"It seems to us, that the current strategy is based on a crapshoot"
The current strategy is the same as it has always been: consumer first, supplier second. Cheap grain means cheap food which is beneficial for eCanadians.
"Letting it fail because foreign companies can afford to dump large amounts of cheap grain on our markets, and take their profits back to their countries are ridiculous...simply raising income tax rates, and not solving the underlying market problems is a recipe for failure."
The underlying problem in the grain market is that we have too many grain companies producing at max capacity. Foreign imports gives the government revenue and creates cheap food. To increase profit margins, I suggest scaling back your production or start thinking about exporting to grain-poor countries. Ireland, Israel (dropped their tax), South Africa (in spite of the turmoil), UK...take your pick and invest in a license. The grain price in Canada will eventually go up because of it.
Canadian's do you really want someone with no idea how to run the economy to be in charge of this country?
He's been Minister of Finance for 6+ months and hasn't made a dollar for Canada.
Canada has had less money then 6 months ago which is pathetic considering Alexander Rearden's predecessor made more money in a month than he did in 6 months.
DOES Canada really want someone who cannot lead the country or the economy?
Go to your congressmen today and demand that you be allowed to vote for your ministers instead of it being the Prime Minister's divine power.
Canada needs ministers who can make a difference for Canada not ministers like Alexander Rearden who have no idea what they are doing.
The Verdict:
Alexander Rearden cannot lead a country
Alexander Rearden cannot lead the economy.
Alexander Rearden cannot even lead the crown corporations.
Do not vote for him.
Good to see you have Dean's vote
Dean22, the purpose of the ministry of finance (as well as the ministry of Industries) is not to make money, the Ministry of finance is to admistrate funds, and of that he did so elequently. The purposes of having crown corportations are basically to provide goods to the CAF and have enough training companies so that people of zero skill have someplace to get the training they desperately need early on. In these respects, I say that Alex has done an admirable job. I know I'll vote for him.
Indeed.
Good luck AR !
@ Unthak Jones - "The purposes of having crown corportations are basically to provide goods to the CAF and have enough training companies so that people of zero skill have someplace to get the training they desperately need early on"
First why does the Crown Companies provide goods to the CAF? Would it not be more beneficial to the economy if the CAF got its supplies from private Canadian companies. At most the Crown Companies should create a stockpile then stop producing, just for emergencies.
Secondly there is only 1 training company in the 6 crown companies. Why does that training company have 60+ employees? It should be paying all the employees minimum wage. It should be firing all inactives frequently not once a week or less. And it should be firing all workers with 2 skill or more.
Thirdly the 5 other crown companies are often understaffed or overstaffed except when that point is brought up on the forums. Suspiciously the problem is fixed then denied.
Also AR seems to be a dictator that ignores most opinions on the eCanada forums.
"Our Nation has grown from small tight-knit clique of people to a large and diverse community."
It has?
As usual, love you Dean.
Grand Moff
Not all CAF is supplied by Canada Weapons, last time I checked not even 50% of our Q1 weapons come from Canada Weapons. Coda, JW, correct me if I am incorrect.
Why would we want to fire all the inactives? we don't need to produce Q1 food efficiently, we soak up a huge proportion of the unemployed 1 timers which makes our economic statistics looks better. All work for minimum wage, find a trainer where that isn't the case.
Also, the other companies are NOT understaffed or overstaffed any more often than private companies. If you have any REAL evidence to the contrary then please link. If you would like me to provide evidence for my point I will start screenshotting MoI every day and posting it publicly.
I don't ignore, I just don't change policy at the whim of every person who wants a change. I also get tired of addressing the same arguments over and over again so no, I don't post on every single thread or article on the economy. However, ones that recieve a large amount of attention, yes I comment and address. Once again, link me to threads/articles where other opinions are shared and I ignored them.
Do you think Ben Bernanke listens to every average joe's opinion on the street all the time? No. I know that eRep is different and so I do work to talk to people with economic concerns.
Dean makes a point.. Dean for Prez!!!
"Dean22, the purpose of the ministry of finance (as well as the ministry of Industries) is not to make money, the Ministry of finance is to admistrate funds, and of that he did so elequently. Actually it is to make money. However, you wouldn't know since the current minister of finance hasn't been doing the job right for 6+ months and your only 18 days old.
Jeez Alexander you love everyone who you can't win against when they bring forth their points about you?
Alexander Rearden 19 hours ago
Love you too Yonsil 🙂
Canadian Ministry of Finance
Or
Canadian Ministry of Finance 2 hours ago
As usual, love you Dean.
Hell, Rearden because your so intent on keeping MoF you don't want to give it up even if you became Prime Minister.
Maybe you should go back to bribes in order to keep your minister position since so many people are upset with your abilities right now.
Just like how you bribed the Canadian administration in November and you black mailed the Canadian administration when Tom Hagen was Prime Minister in order to keep the position.
Your swine and deserve nothing more then congress.
GRILL THIS MAD CANDIDATE!!
Sweet, I own a pig.
"your swine"
I thought your heart Yonsil was an expression of your love for me.
Alex, I'll give you 2 cows for that pig. I need it for my biological warfare.
Alexander Rearden, please support an increase in the Candian grain tariff. Canadian grain companies are hemoraging money and workers. We can not compete aginst the foreign companies that dump grain on our market for rock-bottom prices, driving the market pricing down. Reasons:
1. Canadian grain companies - Q1-Q4 - are just not competetive and not selling grain unless they reduce their prices to well below profitable.
2. Reduced foreign competition means an increase in revenues enabling us to increase our salaries, retain Canadian workers, and compete with other land industry companies for workers. This means more jobs for Canadians, paying more money, and increased salaries in land industries.
3. Increased profits for Canadian grain companies means increased government revenues through income taxes.
4. The great majority of other nations with high-grain producing regions have their import tariffs set to higher than 30%. The US is 30%. Yeah, we could spring for the extra gold and buy a license elsewhere. The trouble is, their grain tariffs. Likewise, Canadians cost more to produce grain. Our tariff should be competetive with those of competing countries. Lets keep the money in Canada.
5. In spite of what we have seen written in the eCanadian forums and in news articles, we are not a bunch of idiots who don't know how to run a business. This is a difficult industry and most of us are doing our best to be competetive. Having the deck stacked against us from the start, is not the Canadian way.
6. New Canadians are already making more than min-wage. They can afford the few cents more in the price of food, even if that does happen. Food companies still have to compete on price. But food has a relatively high tariff. We don't.
7. Profitable Canadian grain companies are good for Canada. Letting an entire Canadian industry fail is not. Plain and simple.
Expect 5% increase in tariffs at least by thursday/friday
as well as a 5% increase in Food tariffs
However, if Q1-Q3 food becomes unattainable to the average citizen. I will not hesitate to cut those taxes again by exec order if elected.
Good luck "A R"
Good tidings.
We want a Cabinet! We want a Cabinet! Seriously Alex, I'd like to see a Cabinet.
So who will make the military decisions?
And will they be as dubious as they are now?
eg,
Sending out a lot of moving tickets to help eRomania claim back some land they stole in the first place instead of help helping eGermany in its war for survival when we have a MPP with eGermany that means we can all fight from home.....saving valuble funds.
"The Canadian government has long been dominated by key individuals, it always will be"
Way to crush a boomer's dream AR,and I have to disagree. I think the time will soon come when those "key individuals" will be replaced by the greater men in lesser positions.
Yeah, when "the key individuals" retire. Then obviously new key individuals will arise. eRep like most government has a level of oligarchyness to it. Its just a tad more apparent in eRep.
I will be releasing cabinet later today. I have to dot the t's and cross the i's with some folks.
And the claws come out. Is this what it was like last month?I was born on election day so I missed all the blathering, spitting and hair pulling. Nice start Alex hope to see more details emerge as the election race continues.
Dammit how many times do I have to kick Dean22 outta here before he stays out? Warning everyone, this is a Ministry warning, Dean22 is around and I am decalring the public officially unsafe.
AT least I won't run this election against AR, wouldn't want to beat him badly two elections in a row 😛
Naming the cabinet......lets see who's new.
Newness for newness' sake surely can't be a virtue.
It isn't, which is why I went with a largely experience Cabinet.
I want to throw my all into the new constitution, along with my Constitutional Secretary Dabman. While still giving the economy, military and foreign policy the attention it deserves. The only way I can get that all done is with the help of strong ministers who know their roles and have brought results to Canada.
Expect an article shortly on my proposed Cabinet.
"Actually it is to make money. However, you wouldn't know since the current minister of finance hasn't been doing the job right for 6+ months and your only 18 days old."
I'm a lot older than 18 days, Just search Unthak and click on the first guy, that was me!! I was Speaker of Congress for christ sake!! I should know what I'm talking about! (Atlest my citizenship wasn't revoked)
Leave the money making upto the private individuals and companies, Government's role is to regulate, and those trainer companies keep prices from skyrocketing and provide wages when the private sector doesn't (last month there was an extreme shortage of skill 0 jobs, MoI supplied more than 100 jobs for newbs to work at!). About firing inactives, why? If they don't work, they won't get paid, and their being in the company adds a bonus to the people that do work, so the inefficent hiring practices can find a little bit of solvency.
The Crown Company Canadian Arms never underbids, they have consistantly been supplying the canadian market with q1 weapons at 7.00CAD/Product, not beccause they can't afford to make it cheaper, they are establishing an effective price ceiling, helping the economy and combating inflation (on the CPI scale).
Furthermore, If AR bribed Tom Hagen to keep MoF, why hasn't anybody else revealed it. That accusation is about as true as the following statement: "Gofarman stole from the CND"!!
Provide Links, Screenshots, anything but hersay and rumours.
A vote for AR is a vote for a stronger eCanada!!
