Is Something Being Missed?
Maxmillian VonWillebrand
With all the talk or rather I should say SCREAMING and YELLING, not to mention the finger pointing across the nation. Something seems to have been missed, but if you ask many citizens they will say nothing has been missed, except the chance to attack our enemy. You may ask yourself “What’s this guy talking about?” The truth I am referring to is this – And we’ve all heard it many, many times.
And that is...
Getting the Noobs more involved, or rather to come back more than a few days then disappearing to let their citizen die a slow and agonizing death! When I first started I was so BORED with the lack of play that I FORGOT to come back for several days! I only came back as an afterthought one day as I was going through my emails and found the confirmation letter. I bet everyone here has gone through this same underwhelming feeling of boredom from the game play here in your first few days.
I have a somewhat UNORTHODOX idea regarding this, what do you think about creating a Noob Country. This country would be a place for the newly minted citizens to get a hang of some of the works here, but without some of the growing pains they are having right now. Like the wages are too low to afford any food! And forget about fighting, can't afford to do that either.
This would solve a few problems we have now, like not inflating a country's population and wasting a company’s resources just because people never return and they die. People will still die off, but not is such useless numbers that are here now!
Thank you for your time…

I see where your coming from but there are a few things. When can noobs move over the a full on country? There should be requirements other wise many will simply skip it. I like the idea but I don't see it being put into practice anytime soon
@Chisholm: Agreed, there are some flaws to this concept, but isn't that where all great ideas have come from? Flawed concepts at some point in time? I'm not saying this is THE answer, or that it would even be implemented anytime soon by admin, but it sure is a thought...

Call it food for thought... If a noob wanted to move, they would have 1 FREE MOVE, anywhere in the world! Say after lvl 2, that way they have some grasp of the game. This country could be Antarctica or some holding area, like Ellis Island for immigrants!
People here could go to the game forum and ask questions and other things to get a feel.. Granted a smaller feel but a feel none the less.
I like the concept, you actualy see it in a lot of MMO's where u have a "beginner/noob island" if u dont like the game to start with then there is no need to move to a normal country.
one could start there and have like a set % wellness, but your skills/strenght would only rise half as fast as in any other country.
Speaking as a noob... I by that I mean I am a noob and speaking. Or at least I can. Here I mostly write. I think something along these lines or a several day to a week or so tutorial phase would have been a big help.
Simulated jobs/fights/task that guide you through the various aspects & potential pitfalls you will encounter. Potentially using the trivia mechanism to test you as to your comprehension of the eRepublik facts of life. As a "reward" you get your starting cash, maybe a couple of days food, etc. enough to give you a running start... & most importantly some sort of direction to your early life.
I wouldn't think you'd want it too long. I am only 14 days old and now have a Job, Party affiliation, Newspaper, and just got to vote in my first election. I'll grant you I made some huge mistakes and nearly died once... but it's already become quite compelling. Most of my learning has come from talking to those more experienced than myself (everyone else). Also building networks etc seems to be the best part of this so yo want to jump in as soon as possible. Just my two cents... & thanks for thinking about the little man. Not something I see in alot of places.
Great Idea. Until then, we can all just find a noob or two to keep under our wings and help them figure it out.
@Ogdensign - And yes, many other games I have seen offer a similar concept...the "mellow version" of the real world you enter...
@istarlan - sounds great to me! I was one once too and got much needed advice from people simply by asking, and then they just helped guide me trhough the different processes...
New Year Resolution:
Every one picks a NOOB and gives him/her a noogie!
J/K or am I? Seriously, mentor a noob and make sure they become a Mentor too!
RE: istarlan & Maxmillian VonWillebrand.
I agree and appreciate both of your approaches. In fact the personal approach is probably the most satisfying in the long run. Particularly in an environment such as this. Not to mention the easiest/most likely to implement.
@Maxmillian VonWillebrand
I apologize if I was inarticulate in my comment. I didn't mean to suggest that other games/simulations etc. were lacking a "mellow version", but rather the concern on the part of veterans for those just getting started that is being so graciously expressed in this article and by your own and the others comments. Certainly this is a generalization and there are wonderful exceptions, but the cult of Meritocracy or Tenurocracy seems to be more than well represented.
@Ogdensign - Not at all...I didn't take your post as inept or misinformed. I was simply responding to your well-thought out post. I appreciate all of the feedback I receive on the articles published in my paper. I only have 1 staff writer at the moment, so whether it's my article or his, I support it and welcome feedback!!
