[PotUS] Agreement with Asteria

Day 4,560, 19:25 Published in USA USA by Tyler Bubblar

For nearly as long as I have played eRepublik Serbia has been the monster under the bed. The Boogeyman in the Closet. They have been to eRepublik what the Los Angeles Lakers are to everyone else in the Western Conference. I say that as a Utah Jazz fan. My team would beat them here and there. Usually in the regular season, but every once in a great while in the playoffs, but the last such occurrence was 1998 when I was in high school. The Lakers have 16 Championships which is roughly equal to the amount of Championships (17) the rest of the Conference has won combined. My God I hate the Lakers.

Which takes me back to Serbia and Asteria. No doubt everyone is aware that Serbia, Iran, and Romania are on our cores. Even now as I write this, UAE is also attempting to land an Airstrike in Arizona. I am told Peru was soon to join in as well. In short this is (or was the beginning) of another wipe in which multiple nations attack us in waves, and then occupy our regions with bonuses and holdings indefinitely. Normally when this happens we work with our Allies to whittle down the number of invaders until we are down to one. Sometimes we are able to push the last remaining invader out. Other times we seek to come to some sort of Agreement with the holdovers we could not remove. Josh Frost did this with Poland and late comer Spain in late 2013. We paid a heavy tribute to Poland and ceded our east coast to them for approximately the next 6 months. This was only accomplished after months of wipe and near wipe. In return we were given the rest of our cores back.

The option of coordinating with our Allies is not open to us at this time. CODE has decided to boycott the purchase of packs which is going to effectively sideline our Alliance for the foreseeable future. In CODE meetings it was said each nation should focus on their community while they attempt to wrest concessions from Plato’s tight fisted grasp. During one of these meetings I said we could only hope to distract our citizens with bread and circuses for so long without a balanced plan to restore our regions and production. This is true not just for morale, but in the simple fact that sooner or later you run out of bread and coin. As a personal example I pay for a Party program No Fed Left Behind and AmeriCare out of my own pocket. The costs of these programs are at least partially offset by the production of my factories when I Work as Manager and either sell the production or use it to supply these programs. At present I cannot Work as Manager so my pile of cc shrinks a bit more each day. I suspect many other Party programs are in a similar predicament. In addition to this tax revenues are sinking rapidly to a fraction of what they were pre-invasion.

Focusing on the Community only during these circumstances is simply unsustainable. I cannot and will not ask my Community to endure an indefinite wipe or economic disruption if it serves no purpose. If our Alliance asked us to sacrifice, serve as a damage drain so Turkey, Croatia, Albania or any of our wiped Allies could wage a campaign to get up off of the mat and put themselves back on the map; well that is something I can put to the eUSA. However, I will not ask them to endure a wipe while a boycott plays out for the foreseeable future. With this in mind Pimpdollaz, DMJ, RT, and I approached the Leaders of Asteria to see if we could negotiate an understanding. I found the leaders of Asteria to be gracious and willing to talk. Considering their edge in firepower and numbers this is not something they had to do. Point of fact I was told their initial plan was one of running trains in the eUSA indefinitely. However, the CP of Iran was involved in the Persian Plunder incident 4 years ago and remembered my dealings with them. Karma can be and frequently is a bitch, but she can also reward good deeds. 4 years ago I purchased 3 million cc to reimburse an Iranian MU that had that amount taken out of the old Rogue Squadron org they were using. At the time they were seeking to impose a MTO on us in the midst of the Resource Wars. They made it known if their wrong was redressed they would leave us in peace. They were true to their word. With that foundation of mutual trust and experience we sat down to discuss terms.

The negotiated terms which just passed a vote by Congress (24 Yeas, 2 Nays, and 2 Abstentions) were the following:

"6 months of needing approval for TW partners.
No CODE/ANDES TWs. Pacifica and South Korea are okay. Iran, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria , and Macedonia must be included as TW partners. With a max tax return of 500k monthly per TW. We can have up to 8 TW partners and up to 5 ping pongs.

We also must do a 9 to 12 month NAP with Canada.

In return we get all of our safe states back. We will be able to pick what states we want to designate as safe. Once the six months is over we'll have the same relationship with Asteria that they have with Russia and Poland. We will not be asked to fight against CODE/ANDES and will not be asked to leave CODE.
"

As an aside Asteria was more than civil during these negotiations. Far more than they had to be given the power discrepancy between us. With the exception of Serbia and Iran all of the nations they are sending as TW partners have been friends of the eUSA at one time or another. Which just goes to show how much things can and do change over time in eRepublik.

I fully recognize that this move will not be well received by all of the populace of the eUSA and of course amongst our Alliance. However, without a military solution or plans in the works I did what I thought would best serve the interests of the community of the eUSA. There are so many plans and programs for the eUSA that my team has been forced to hold in abeyance due to the military/economic situation. I campaigned heavily on revitalizing the Domestic Departments of the Executive. My team has done a fantastic job. It has been some time since the eUSA has seen a Cabinet this large and diverse churning out articles and programs. They have been amazing. Point of fact I have a message from the Secretary of the Interior regarding a new website he is putting together for the benefit of everyone:

Message from the Department of the Interior
"Hello all! KingTaco here, your SoI! I just wanted to give you all a heads up that we have a new website, http://www.eusadoi.com/DOI/fff so be sure you sign up for the Food for Flight program today, as the first round of food will be deposited into accounts tomorrow! The sooner your register, the more air battles you will earn food for!"

This website will eventually provide an easy way to access battle prios. A click from this website will take you directly to the fight. This website will also allow for signing up for programs and track delivery of cc, food, weapons, and other goodies for easy reporting to Congress on how public funds were spent. The amount of time, energy, effort, and real life money KingTaco has put into this is staggering. I cannot thank him enough for his work and his generous attitude.

Really I cannot thank my entire team enough for the work they have put in since we started this term. They came together and really got to work immediately. It has been an honor and a privilege being a part of that. It is my hope that this agreement with Asteria will allow us to really shine on the domestic front. I know Max has been chomping at the bit to get the National CoOP set up. Once we have our regions and bonuses restored there will be more media about this to recruit volunteers to begin constructing the CoOP.

We now have a window of 6 months to build and strengthen our Institutions, there will be TWs aplenty for farming gold, True Patriot damage, RW heroes, and to swell the ranks of Legends of the USA. My administration and I will release more information in the coming days about these new TWs. If your holdings are in a state that was previously considered safe please keep them there. They will be restored shortly. As always I thank you for reading.
