Sometimes I Wonder #1

Most Germans wouldn't support Nazism these days, and I'm sure they look upon the whole WWII Era as a bleak time best left in the past.
But, sometimes I wonder:
In the back of their minds, do the Germans not also think to themselves "Dammit, we coulda won that shit if dem Japs hadn't set dem Yanks off!"?

They would be mistaken if they believe the 'Jap' attack was the reason for USA getting involved.
Indeed, it was just a trigger. It is naive to believe that USA would not eventually enter WW2, infact Germany declared war on USA few days after the Japanese attack.
They declared war in support of their allies. Hitler believed that the Japanese would keep the Americans occupied and this would take the pressure off him in Europe. He believed "lend lease" would come to a halt. He believed his u boats would sink everything the allies had in the Atlantic given he now didn't have to worry about upsetting the Americans any more.
American politicians even back in the 30s and 40s cared what the people thought. The people in general weren't interested in a European war. If American politicians brought the country to war without a good reason then the people would vote them out of office during the next elections. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour was exactly the trigger the politicians needed to get the general population's support for a war.
Here is a weird thing to say what if. During the American civil war if the north let the south sucres, and there were two rival counties in North America. Each could of taken opposite sides and fought against each other. A lot of history would of been different. Germans did not attack Russia things might be diffrent, you can go on and ask if hitler got the bomb what would of happened. Good conversation to have over a beer.
That's just it, if just one of a number of things had went different, Germany might have taken/held most of Europe and north Africa. Not many nations are capable of founding an empire that large.
its common knowledge that most of the armies and strength of the German armies was broken when Germany attacked the Russians. thereafter they could not defend against the Russian armies that conquered them from the north. indeed without that single fact they probably would have wiped the allied forces.
furthermore the USA allowed the genocide of 13 million jews from 38 to 44 when they joined. their not heroes their cowards .
Germany attacked Soviet Union in the best possible time. Preemptive attack was best defence, and Soviet Union was not ready for it, so they lost a lot in the start. Soviet Union prevailed after, but Germans had great progress in the start of the invasion.

RTK, as an American I take great offense. It's they're not heroes, they're cowards, not their not heroes , their cowards.. Dumb shit.
Grammar is not relevant
yes Germany ground themselves to pieces in Russia, but they chose to attack Russia and they got pretty damn far too. Pearl Harbor wasn't their play, but because of it +1 million well provisioned new soldiers joined the opposing side.
once they retreated in russia they were never the same fighting force again. did i miss pearl harbor day or something? why you keep harping on that sweetie pie?
Because the American public was heavily against their nation joining directly in the war. After Pearl Harbor American support for engaging was so strong over a million men volunteered and their industry/economy was highly devoted to the cause.
A million fresh soldiers made a big difference,
But all those new tanks/planes and ordinance probably changed the outcome of the war.
Someone who believes in the multiverse theory will probably be nodding sagely and pointing to universe K185430 where Germany did win the war.
kurgan fell into that universe K185430 and play game eDictator currently their peeved off at Marx for introducing the democracy update.
That explains where Vik went. He's got his work cut out for him there.
What if the Brits didn't execute the 1916 leaders? Would we be playing with Union Jacks beside our name?
What if Britain hadn't invaded in the first place?
What if Cromwell had been defeated
Yes you may well have been. The captured soldiers from the failed 1916 revolution were spat on by crowds in the streets - and as those streets were in Ireland - they must have been Irish crowds doing the spitting. The offensive & ham fisted approach by the British in trying & executing those captured Irishmen greatly offended the Irish people & turned those Irishmen into heroes & martyrs
Grate new idea four a serious of articles, Sweet. Anything to wake up Ybdub. No offence (sic).
yes great idea for an article.
What If the Japanese had made peace with China and not with Russia, and had invaded Russia from the east whilst Hitler invaded from the west?
What if Hitler had not spent so much effort initially attacking Leningrad and had continued his thrust east to take Moscow and south for the oilfields?
What if the Japanese had chosen not to attack Pearl Harbour and had kept to continental Asia?
What if India had gone into revolution and joined the Axis powers against the Allies?
The US had given the Japanese an ultimatum - the nature of which showed that they either had completely no idea of how the Japanese would react.
Or, they knew very well & had goaded the Japanese into declaring war as Japanese notions of honour /Bushido allowed them no other course.
The fact that the Japanese were able to carry out their Pearl Harbour attack showed that the US military were not very awake - and the US was very very lucky that their aaircraft carriers were not caught up in Pearl Harbour as the Japanese were hoping & expecting. The war may well have taken a different turn.
