Determination - Honeymoon Period?
ForTeaSicks
A few days ago I decided to have a quick read of the new "Determination" feature and to be frank I was quite surprised at how little it will effect the game. I think the FF medals will do much more for the game than determination will.
The amount of determination that builds over time just looks like a traditional sigmoid function which isn't that great especially when you check out how long you have to wait to see any significant effect; as you would expect with a sigmoid type function.
As you can see from the graph above it would take roughly 3 months to reach a point where your determination would be high enough that your influence is doubled in battle. At which time many smaller countries still may not be able to liberate their region yet. However many countries will be able to liberate their regions between this 3-4month period. The only solace you get from liberating your region is that your determination will stay high after liberation. The only issue is that determination withers away so fast it might as well have been reset.
From the image above you can see after liberating your region that has been under enemy control for 3 months+ your determination will be back to 0 in about a week. This basically means after a few months of losing your region you get that extra push you need to liberate, at which time you can hold onto your liberated region for a week.
I am not saying we can't liberate our regions without determination and I am not saying we can't hold onto our regions when our determination is 0. I am an optimist. I'm merely asking... "How does determination change a thing???"
You may be saying, "...well its helping plenty of countries like, America, Canada, Germany etc, they managed to get a whole bunch of land back??..!?.!." Well this is because "Determination" is in its honeymoon period. All the land is given its rightful determination as though it had been around all along, giving many countries very high influence bonuses easily allowing them to liberating their region.
In a week or two the empires will re-emerge and capture everything once more... changing nothing. I am just wondering... Did I miss something???... I hope I am mistaken or that I read something wrongly as otherwise the only other option is that I am left with the bleak future that determination is as useless as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.
If I have read something wrongly please do let me know if not we have to buckle up and continue the tough ride that is eRep. Anyways that is about all I have to say.

actually I looked at these just today. It is really quite ridiculous that it will take 80 days just to get to the second phase. I think it was only implemented to have a big effect originally. Everyone was talking about "the fall of Poland." It did however bring a little entertainment with it. Now there is a little more strategy and purpose in war and politics.
I agree with the initial big effect. However I don't see how the smaller nations will be able to hold onto their liberated region. In a matter of a few weeks all will settle down back to the way eRep has always been.
yes. they don't want the bigger nations to stop fighting. if people stop fighting people stop buying gold as much. if people stop buying gold the admins don't get their salary.
That is true, although they should think up a balanced system where the fight goes back and forth. Rather than the weaker country looking for help from bigger nations. The "Determination" system is great they just need to let the determination drop at the same rate. Ohh and they should get rid of the determination resetting as well if they were to decrease determination drop rate. That is just ludicrous, its like an extra fail safe for the bigger nations to always get as much territory as they want.
Drop at the same rate it grows*
Well who said those dickheads deserve any salary, the blasted peasants.
I think that this is till a little inaccurate, I saw regions that had been held for up to 200 days that had less than 3 determination. I was going to do something similar, but didn't 😣
Pat I didn't create the graphs I just grabbed em from here - http://forum.erepublik.com/index.php?/topic/1817-empires-determination-updated/
😨 That still seems really wrong
I can only hope so. Because from the graphs it looks like determination will have very minimal effects on eRep from here on out.
Seems to me that small countries will become even bigger targets for AS!
Great article.
ty ^.^
Nothing new; we were saying this basically the day it was released. Still, good for the players who don't get onto IRC.
I realise it may not be new, because looking at it for more than 1 minute you would realise the update is complete BS. I just didn't read it in an article and know that many eAussies may not know about this and still be living in a bubble that this update will help eRep in some way.
I just wanted to spread the word. 😃
It is good to know that many already know, as it shows there are many eAussies that are still actively reading up about erep.
EDIT: I just realised that the above may have sounded rude or blunt, I did not mean it that way, just wrote it that way I guess. I am not angry in any way. ^.^
All good, I realise my comment may have sounded like this article was useless, when in reality it's great for people who think it's bigger than it is.
All the love for people educatin' eAus.
No no, I completely understood what you meant. 😃
Great article 🙂
did you really expect anything of substance that worked for the benefit of the players from admins???thinking admin gives a f*** about anything other than how many idiots buy moronic amounts of gold to feed their nationalistic fervour, is just plain stupid.
Yep, agreed, compared to those tools you ain't that bad a chap.
It is true they only do think about the gold sales short term. Although the updates they are cranking out now support the large gold buyers from these super power nations if they evened it out their player base would grow and I think long term gold purchase would be far higher than any petty cash they're making now.
The game should come first and money made is secondary. If the game is not self-sufficient that is another issue, but this still isn't the solution. Plus with the taxation, the game is spiralling out of control now.
I see that once again eRepublik's owners still want to keep Aussies down, That graph shows that they just talk pure bullshit. I reckon the games owners are a couple of Chileans and Indos.
