still amusing to see people cling to such antiquated rules and procedures.

You're not banned, you had your masking removed. Big difference.
Also I stole your "comment deleted" because I'm a total Boss.

only a fool would call a fool a fool who has not seen the fool in real life 😃
Foolish.
You used the basic game mechanics afforded to by the game itself without seeking the permission of a fabricated power monopoly of stagnation and self-gratification? You scoundrel you. Feel the furrowed brows of scorn and impotence.
The point that will be continually misse😛 Those that are never made to feel included in the process, will continue to find ways around the process. But that's not really the truth, regardless of the sporadic cries of disbelief that no one new is ever really active on the forums for long. It would really be more sincere to say, 'It's our power centre, our rules to keep that power, follow our rules." Shockingly, the sandbox fun-time group remains small.
I disagree
To pass a motion in this game you need to a majority of support for it
A majority of the support lies with those who believe in the forum based system
Build support another way if you prefer and make sure you aren't bringing a knife to a gunfight.
A majority of the support lies with those who monopolize the the forum based system. A system which says it's illegal to not use the system. Beautifully secure method of retaining a central power base. Yet when the forum was spam blocked and no one could access it the government still ran, proving it's not essential to continued play.
There are a groups of people excluded from government because they do not wish to jump through the fabricated and unbalanced hoops created by an existing power structure. Basically, I can see why they would not participate and work around that system when the system doesn't work to include them.
you make the forums sound like some sort of gang initiation beat down
I'd say that's a very accurate description.
This term I contacted players new to Congress from CW and MDP hoping to prompt and motivate increased political activity from fresh voices (per the CW party mandate). Their opinions of the forum were not a positive one. To sum it up, new players to the forum think we're nuts. They may not be wrong. I could see how the uninitiated would feel bullied out of the political arena. This wouldn't be a huge issue if we didn't need active people to keep the game going and interesting.
An outside the box approach would be having all veteran Congress players taking on mentorship roles to new players of Congress. We don't feed it too them until after they have found their footing. Something like a mercy agreement.
Ive seen boyz n the hood, its not accurate
all these veteran congresspeople have managed more or less to navigate and adhere to a very simple set of rules that are meant to get things happening as fast as possible, mentoring should be the responsibility of the party's or not.
when you dont you get things like impeachment proposals that dont have much chance of passing and leaving us without that option for 7 days, its reckless.
Suggest something that works becuase its certainly not ingame articles
Egad! Off site website might be more efficient than Plato? Better stick to Plato's failed game mechanics. There is no better way to conduct Congress than what we have already. If there was, I would be very interested to learn how you would go accomplish that.
I still haven't seen a workable alternative proposed.
Articles can be spammed, reported or removed by the writer. Group PM's don't allow transparency and don't fit a full congress anyway.
Until a better solution is proposed, the forums are the best way we have to conduct a coordinated effort. The only thing keeping many people playing this game is the community. Removing a large chunk of that and having people just doing their own thing will see most people get fed up and leave
forums are doing a pretty good job in keeping people here. just look at last week, it was full of people reinforcing their commitment to the game /irony
You are exactly right, but others will continue to cry otherwise, yet fail to provide any means of alternative...

Until the public-for-common-registered-users parts of the forum are made truly public for unregistered users, including the Open Debate Area (which still has a very ironic name), the forums are dead to me.

It only takes two seconds to register. With the time you put into the game it really isn't much effort.
It's a matter of principle, of openness to every e-society strata.
I registered a week after playing and I even hang around IRC often. Does it make it less wrong?
No.
Until information is avaliable for every citizen independently of their eagerness to register, posting there is hiding debates behind petty procedure.
I understand the need for structured debate. The forums are an important and vital piece of eCanadian life and must be preserved. I'm not defending its extinction or replacement by game-only tools.
I'm only arguing that making people register to stay updated in canadian affairs is declaring open war against any casual player. Proposing laws where the debate is made in a closed forum is keeping the information to the people who arbitrarily hold power over a tool that's meant for the entire community, not just the registered many/few.
Who knows, opening the forum may even be a powerful move to draw more people to register so can they also debate in matters that interest them.
* so they can also debate matters
I'm talking it over with the other admins to see if we can make it more open without suffering from the external spam attacks we had before
I truly appreciate it. Also, spam attacks? Aren't those caused by weak captchas on registration?
they're caused by everyone having access to post everywhere.

Don't play the game (forums), blame the player (Beorn).
no one is blaming anyone...
