It's time to start over - The Senate
infin
For too long we have found the impractical rules of our forum-based "Senate" constrining our decision-making and leaving Australians acting in the best interests of their country under the games mechanics liable to punishment due to their actions infringing the Senate rules.
This is a clear inconsistency which cannot be permitted to continue. Austalia must be protected at all costs and in a way consistent with the Rules of eRepublik. It was put in recent debate on the forum by the Senate Speaker T J Norton that Senators have had ample opportunity to change the Senate laws more to their liking. The Senate is free to organsie itself as it sees fit.
I accept the Speaker's comments and do not criticise him for his punishment of recent Senators who did infringe the rules of the Senate - that is the Speaker's job and he was merely following his charter of appointment. Our Senate rules are pretty good overall actually. I have served as a Senator 21 times now and despite our ups and downs, the Senate rules are conducive to encouraging team work and promotion of the country's interests.
THAT BEING SAID, things have to change. I will be moving an amendment immediately to the Senate Standing Orders as follows:
INSERT Part 1 2 AA) Debate in relation to proposals governed by the Rules of eRepublik may occur in the Senate, but the debate procedure shall not constrain in any way the inherent right of Senators to make a proposal permitted under the Rules of eRepublik in-game at any time without notice.
This amendment must be voted on immediately and passed. It will render much of the current standing orders redundant, but it seems the Senate is not inclined to amend all the necessary provisions. The first priority is to stop punishing good Australians trying to act in the best interests of the country.

Supported 🙂
Waaaaay too late for this article.
TOO late? You mean it is irrepairable? Are we finished for good? I don't think so, Sty.
It's just simply not enough. We need much more radical change than this. I'm in the middle of writing up a proposal to reform the entire imaginary Senate.
I support this push. As a community we need to get behind the Senate now and keep the support up for these changes.
Nelson: Come on mate - really? Why do you bash the very entity you belong to and participate in?
I wish all Senators well in this reform process. Take guidance from the community at large and maybe they can provide some new thoughts into the mix.
@Infin: Bro .. maybe expand the reform proposal to can some of the laws in total. That 1 suggestion you posted above conflicts with a few different laws and the constitution. How about repeal the laws the Senate has trouble with?
I remind the new Senate they have a big weapon at their disposal - the previous Senate just gone passed a referendum on the Constitution that opened the gate for new proposals to be tabled and voted on. I encourage the Senate the use it as it's greatest advantage!
This is the real change:

I would support the single proposal by infin as a starter. The whole job is addressed in H.Nelson's proposal and must be implemented.
isn't this supposed to go to a Referendum? 😛
No because it is not a changing of the institution, it is just changing the required procedure for voting.

^ Agreed!
we try and work to improve things every term. witherd1 your poor memory has forgotten i have driven most of the tax changes in this country over the lastt 3 years. what laws have you changed?
Perhaps you should look over the past 5mths infin, I have only been here that long, and amended many policies. I stopped because no one else seemed to give a shit until now, but its now an over reaction due to no work being done at all. I even decided to not even run one term, because I was too busy in Cabinet to give my attention to Senate.
My beefs with asshole bludgers that do nothing term in and term out are too numerous to mention her in under 500 chars.
And where is your amendment to this particular Act that you are so quick to criticise about?
