Paying gold to immigrate and other madness.

Since I am not a Senator, I figured I would write my little speech in game.
ANP is a party of freedom lovers. We enjoy being free of red tape and non-sense rules and paying unnecessary fees to the government. So when an esteemed Senator proposed charging a gold fee to citizenship applicants I was naturally blown away.
An economy grows from economic activity, meaning employment, and buying and selling commodities. The government then taxes this economic activity by either charging income tax on wages earned, placing a tax on goods sold, or placing a tax on goods sold by a foreigner in Australia. All economic activity is good because this churn creates revenue for the government, and keeps our overall tax base broad and low.
Charging potential businesspeople who want to set up in Australia a gold fee is ridiculous. No one will ever agree to such a proposition and thus economic activity will be lost. Valuable opportunities for employment will be lost. With all due respect to the proposer, this idea is not only flawed but if implemented will damage our economy.
If we keep our taxes low and make it easy for people to come and go as they please, then we will maximise our opportunities in the global market.

My friend, I understand the concerns you might have about how this would affect the economy. I'm convinced that if you pay attention to what I am actually proposing, you too will find these worries are irrelevant: this has nothing to do with global markets.
IF THERE IS a market to be tapped into and we're just missing out.. it's called the CURRENCY DODGERS!
these are shrewd well-off players, too savvy to benefit our economy by using its markets and the MM; their chief intention for coming here is NOT to place goods in our market or to make Q-product companies or offer JOBS to the rest of us (hence they DON'T pay taxes, contrary to what you might think!) ; these blokes don't fight for us, they hardly participate if at all, and the only thing they share is some gold on the market (where the international speculators happily oblige).
CURRENCY DODGERS move to and fro from rich countries with an overvalued currency. They stay here few days/weeks, just to BUILD Q4 RAWS COMPANIES and/or storage houses and go back, disbanding them for gold at many times their worth.
These guys will not be affected by a token guarantee, if they wish to forfeit this and leave before their time.
For the rest of those wishing to immigrate, eAUs provides such a huge support along with its citizenship (ADF core supplies& money, forum incentive schemes etc) that IT'S ONLY FAIR that we ask of them to be sincere in declaring they come to stay.
two issues: no one will ever agree to such an impost, and senators will be bribed for lesser amounts of gold once the policy is introduced. secondly, our currency is not overvalued, it is highly devalued. when a foreign businessperson comes to aus they must buy aud at a cheap rate but the likelihood of selling aud is low due to the large amounts on offer. the plan is thus fatally flawed.
i would prefer that we make our country welcoming and hopefully retain some of our visitors.
first:
the point on corruption is irrelevant. The possibility of a Senator taking a bribe exists anyway under any system. Even our current one. (see the recent 'Gordy Browning-James Rellori' bribe incident)
Due to game mechanics CS is granted by the senators, therefore there's no way of actually stopping them selling their passes to whomever they like. There's perhaps consequences in the forums, but that's way after the deed is done.

you write
"our currency is not overvalued, it is highly devalued. when a foreign businessperson comes to aus they must buy aud at a cheap rate but the likelihood of selling aud is low"
you simply haven't got it: Nobody claimed our currency was overvalued!! Our currency is DEVALUED and this is precisely why the CURRENCY DODGERS choose us. Their intention is to create Q4Raws with our DEVALUED currency, then go back to their old CS and disband them to their OVERVALUED currency.
Let me give an example.
1. To build a q4 RAW company, a Polish businessman is required to spend 7,500 local currency (PLN) plus 1,000 local currency (PLN) for the land. In total 8,500 PLN, the equivalent of which is around 14 gold (currently @596PLN/g)
2. Our friend "immigrates" to Australia. Doesn't cost him a penny. He builds that q4 RAW company, but this time spending 8,500 AUD, being the local DEVALUED currency. He does that with 7 gold (8,500 AUD currently @ 1190AUD/g).
Do the math, he saves 7 gold or not??
3. If he is not interested to keep that Q4 RAW but wants to cash in that profit, he proceeds to change back his CS. He then disbands this company at 3,750 PLN and keeps the land (1000 PLN) the price of which he will further save when he repeats the process. So in total, he benefits 4,750 PLN (= 7,96g @596PLN/g)
7,96-7= 0,96g PROFIT
AND THIS IS THE PROFIT FROM JUST ONE Q4 RAW COMPANY (Cattle/ Saltpetre)!!
THEY USUALLY MAKE DOZENS..
I hope this makes things clear for you now. Heck, you might even be tempted to try this out yourself!
For once Ouke the position of this country is clear - it will never pass.
and that's the end of the story
/the end.
and if the businessman does all this, who is actually harmed?
I think its good that they are coming here and helping our markets, I encourage more to do so.
On the face of it, such a proposal will deter ordinary citizens from migrating to eAustralia, in addition to wealthier 'fly by night' operations.
The practicalities of instituting such a screening process in addition to managing collected funds is a recipe for disaster.
This nation does not need an additional layer of red tape. It is suffocating under the weight of legislation as it is.
buy my WRM, buy my WRM \o/
Sorry Ouke, I have to side with infin on this one.
I really don't see how putting up a barrier to immigration is going to help the country grow...
The immigration system already has corruption as its main enemy. Having its presence is one thing, but putting this in law is legalising bribery.
😁 yes they let anyone in without proper clearance
