The tumult and the shouting dies --
The Captains and the Kings depart --
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget -- lest we forget!
For heathen heart that puts her trust
In reeking tube and iron shard --
All valiant dust that builds on dust,
And guarding calls not Thee to guard.
For frantic boast and foolish word,
Thy Mercy on Thy People, Lord!
Amen.
Who is Lest? I forget who he is.
You are speaking from ignorance & not mockery I am assuming VJ
It is a line from Rudyards poem/prayer "The Recessional"
verse usually spoken on ANZAC day & Rememberance Day.
Not only does it refer to not forgetting Australias casualties in all the wars that were fought, but also referring why Australia fought in them
Anzacs
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We shall remember them
amen
