[ISF] Interview & Competition
JohNandJoaN
The Irish Social Front wants members of the Irish community to learn about their fellow citizens.
Interview.
Today The Irish Social Front interviewed the Irish economic genious Bhane. We hope you enjoy the interview and learn something new!
[Q1]As a player who is known as an economic authority, what are your views on supporting local business vs. embracing the international market?
[A1] Because of the added benefits of supporting local businesses, I hope we can have as much local business as possible in our markets. Right now I am only importing US and Canadian goods because I saw some other importers price gouging our easily exploited small market. I had to do something to keep prices reasonable for our citizens. I recommend that people support local manufacturers like IRAIreland, before they buy from me. By supporting the local producers, you support their IEP wages, and help fuel the eIrish economy even more. I hope that some more entrepreneurs can upgrade to Q5 tank manufacturing in eIrish businesses. I look forward to the day I can remove my goods from the market, and not see prices soar back to 50+ for a tank.
[Q2]There's been some talk about the decline of the relevance of politics in the new changes to the game. Do you see this as a reality, and what are your views on eIreland's political structure?
[A2]There has definitely been a decline of centralized power, because of changes in game mechanics. The MU system has basically ended any need of a state-run military. The new RW system has removed the need for the state to organize the funds for resistance wars. The IA became a MU independent of the state, before the MU game mechanic was even introduced. There has been a decline in the relevance of the political module, but eIreland has had a population that organizes itself with little need of government intervention. Eire is actually ahead of the curve here, and has adapted to the weakened central government better than almost every other nation. I think our national socio-political structure is excellent for success in the current eRep game environment. The people are what make our nation strong. Our friends and allies are what make our nation strong. Our nation's presence in eRep is defined by the strength of our community, not by any singular leader.
[Q3]You recently acquired the Bremen Clubhouses Military Unit the would be "Black and Tans". Can you fill us in on what's happened to the unit since and any developments related to it?
[A3] I re-branded the MU as "Rollta Bais" (or "Rolling Death"). I have no plans to mobilize the MU as a structured military organization. We have plenty of active MUs that do an excellent job. I completely trust IA/Libertad/Labour/etc... to organize the military efforts of our nation in the best interest of eIreland. I am basically keeping the MU as a personal trophy of my coup against the old PTO movement. I have decided to keep the inactives ex-PTOrs as POWs.
[Q4]After finishing second in this last months CP elections, do you have any plans to run for the position again in the near future?
[A4] I have accepted my party's nomination again. I am honoured to make myself available as a candidate, if Eire should want me as CP.
[Q5]You've been an advocate for in game communications rather than forums and IRC. Can you summarize your views on this subject?
[A5]I do not to sign up for any external site and limit myself almost entirely to in-game communications of mails/shouts/articles/comments. Excluding myself from these sites helps me view the goings-on of eIreland from the perspective of the average citizen. I believe that players can successfully play the entire game, inside the game, without ever being forced to join private 3rd party sites.
Can anyone deny that I have been successful influence in all modules of the game, without the aid of private forums? In the economic module, I am a well known entrepreneur. In the military module, I have taken a MU, and I have a few hero medals. In the media module, I have made a few articles worth reading. In the political module, I have been a congressman that helped shape our current (and very successful) tax structure. I made a decent run for CP last month, without any presence on the private forums or IRC channels. I think I have had a fairly successful eRep career, without needing any 3rd party sites.
[Q6]What do you enjoy most about your life in eIreland?
[A6]I enjoy being part of a country that is among the most honorable in eRep.
Despite all our internal disagreements, we maintain our integrity on the international stage. We argue about various political subjects, but all citizens know who our friends are. Even when TEDEN was on it's heels, and all of North America was wiped, we stayed loyal. We did not fall to the temptation of backstabbing our friends to join whomever might be winning at any given moment. The global conflict ebbs and flows through the years. Throughout it all, Eire has stood by our friends and honored our promises.

Good article again 😛
Bhane's cool.
Bhane I love ya, but some of these responses have me puzzled.
You were one of the loudest advocates of mkt protectionism in the country and your Q5's were routinely up at 45iep (gold parity equivalent of a 140% what our American friends paid for tanks at the time) until I used a front to bring the price down to an at least reasonable 35iep using USA & Chinese products.
Shortly after I began fixing the Irish Q5 price to a reasonable level I start hearing that your directing people not to buy from this "Manipulative American organization".
I don't understand how you could claim to be 'pushing out the price gougers' when until someone stepped up to set a fair price for Irish consumers you were charging some of the lowest waged players in the game (Irish) some of the most bloated prices on the world mkt?!?
Please tell me I'm misunderstanding. Cuz I'm a bit shocked tbh
No offense, but you cannot possibly run a country properly(which is what you need to do as CP) without using IRC(especially if we're at war which we are indirectly atm)
Everything that is in any way important in Military and Foreign Affairs(these are basically the backbone of the game) is done via IRC. Every country that matters in the e-world has it's leader(s) available on IRC. A cabinet will be twice as effective if it's CP is IRC active.
Also unless I'm mistaken I don't think the IA "became a MU independent of the state"
u need to use irc to be pres retard
@Sweet
I was routinely selling at 44 when we had no production benefits and wages were 30 IEP higher than they are now. I was producing 10 tanks (no bonus) from the work of 3 people (2 raw workers feed 1 factory production run). My wages were an average of 130 (110-150 depending on some factors). That's a cost of 39 IEP per tank since we were fully occupied most of the time my businesses were running. I also gave many bonuses of tanks to the employees, that cuts into costs even more (closer to your "45" mark).
I am for pro-Irish goods, but I accept the reality that our production is not enough to keep up with demand. We will inevitably import some goods. I don't want to import anything, but at least the eIrish people have been able to afford 50% more tanks than they would have gotten otherwise, because of what I have been doing. If we must import, then at least I'm supporting TEDEN, instead of ONE nations like Poland and Turkey that provide much greater profit opportunities.
I'm doing this help eIrish prices, I'm not doing this for profit. I think that is evidenced by my recent philanthropic endeavors. I'm not dumping the money on the monetary market to help devalue our currency, like most import evaders do. Other importers have been asked to help eIrish, and have shown no interest in patriotic needs. I'm using the money for initiatives like the treasury funds, and subsidizing Stark's program, and donating to the new IUP startup, and many other projects for Eire.
@Ibhoy & IRR
I know you guys don't want me in your clique. That's okay, I do not need to eat at the cool kids table. You guys clearly have disdain for me, but I still like you. I know you are patriots who fight for our beloved Eire. I will always respect you for that, even if the respect will never be mutual. Thank you for all the work you do.
How have I disdain for you? All I'm doing is mentioning facts that I know to be true, I never took anything away from what you have done in the game nor your loyalty to Ireland.
Your loyalty to Ireland won't be enough to run the country though. I've had this argument with people before. After they got elected one of 2 things is what always happened-
1- They saw that I was right and that they needed at least some sort of presence on IRC
2- We had a disastrous/inactive term.
If you're elected then it'll be the same.
Please refrain from being so silly by trying to make out that I have a problem with you as a person as I most certainly do not.
I had no idea your MU's name meant that. Figured it was some random latin. A fada in báis would help a lot.
If Eire wants me to be CP, then you can be my official IRC Liaison, Ibhoy. You can be my presence on IRC. I have every confidence that you are a bold representative of Eire's best interests in the world of IRC.
Slainte!
@Tib
I had the accent mark when I typed the word, but the name box said "Name is Invalid" The correct letter is not acceptable in the name of a MU.
Also I think Báis Rollta is more correct. Usually in Irish the verb is after the noun,
I am not an authority on the language. I am willing to pay the 2g to correct it to the right words. But, I would need someone to be more confident than "Also I think..." : P
Yeah I appreciate your trepidation. Had I not let my Irish get so rusty I could be more certain. Must be another (better) Gaeilgeoir playing this game who can help out.
@Bhane
I won't be CP, you would be.
Also a drive started on IRC today got your paper bout 200 subs in about an hour. In a full day before that just using the game you only managed 100. That is one of the differences between ingame and IRC- Speed.
Nice article. I use forums and IRC because it increases game enjoyment for me, but I have to agree that Bhane has proved they aren't necessities. IRC probably is essential to government, if only because all governments seem to operate in someway through the IRC. For on the fly decision making and communication, it makes sense that IRC provides a certain advantage.
I assume you will keep the MU somewhat active in order to not let it fall back into the hands of the BCH?
As long as Bhane logs in to the game every once in a while then the MU isn't changing hands any time soon.
It's not like I have never been on IRC. I have logged in, during the very few times that the need arose. I simply do not log in as a habit, or leave a chat room open to idle while I go about my day. I don't mind the using IRC as a guest, when absolutely necessary. But, there is no need to "register" for a 3rd party site in order to play this game. You can get me to come to IRC in an emergency, but you will not find me lingering there.
That's fine tbh, it's just when your a CP there can be an emergency every single day and sometimes 3-4 in a day. And you do need to register your nickname to have access to the Eden rooms to represent the country like every other CP in the alliance.
+ if u dont register anyone can use ur nick and impersonate you to the devastation of the country
The fact that I never come on irc unless I am directly responding to an in-game request, means everyone calling themselves "Bhane" is an impostor. It's very easy to know when I am being impersonating, since I'm never in IRC. I only come in response to a direct mail, and I tell that person I am coming. Even then, I use a nom de plum, which I in-game communicate to the person requesting me. I'm not sure if I have ever come on to IRC as "Bhane."
If you see "Bhane" it is 99.99% likely to be an impostor. Do not trust them.
You can always mail me in-game to verify if it is or isn't me.
Bhane are you going to message that^ to every CP, VP, MoFA and MoD in the game?
When I contact any CP or foreign official, I will use in game communication with a mail. Group mails allow for in-game private conversations that include multiple people. There are plenty of ways to talk to necessary people without some dire need for your IRC.
Just because I don't play the game in the exact same way that you play the game, doesn't mean I am playing the "wrong" way. There are lots of ways to play this game successfully. We are allowed to have different play styles, and still both be successful.
Your not taking into account that the entire leadership of our alliance refuses to play the game your way. It doesn't matter what we think as much as it matters what EDEN thinks.
Yes you can play the game your way and be successful in a good many things. CP of an Eden country will not be one of those things I assure you.
Ofc though you are right and the best players that ever played the game are ALL wrong.
IRC is an essential part of a CPs job. Quit the silly talk please.
Sweet you seem to have time enough , Any chance of an update ??
It matters who the eIrish people wish to trust with the decision making a CP has to do.
If you guys don't trust that I will work to do what is best for eIreland, that is your right to have that opinion. I'm sorry if I am not cool enough to be in the clique. Feel free to spread all the hate you want. You are players of power and influence. I am sure you can convince people that I am a villain that they should never vote for me. It is clear how much (or how little) you guys appreciate my efforts to strengthen Eire.
You can decide if you trust me to work for Eire. If you truly believe that I am bad for eIreland, then continue your efforts, and tell everyone how awful I am because I am not like you.
Do you honestly believe I would ever stop working for the best interest of Eire?
Of course you don't... so stop spreading hate.
Let the people decide who they want to make decisions for the direction of Eire.
I'm confused Bhane.... very confused.
If you think people are trying to take a swipe at your campaign why not just say you'll be on irc as often as necessary (which is pretty much what you've said although you would need a registered name)?
What's with the self pity?
I like irc for instant communication on a mass scale,
I like ingame messaging for PMs and slow going non-essential conversations,
I like the forum as an archive and permanent resevoir of ideas/projects/silly cr@p. Each has its place. Comment threads however quickly become pretty unsightly and confusing for large discussions.
@Castaneda
I run around putting out fires 18hrs/e-day.
If it seems like I have any sort of free-time on my hands, it's because your staring at one of those fires!
Stop doing that martyr thing your doing there Bhane..
Both IB and myself have referred to you as an Irish legend and one of her greatest patriots on numerous occasions.
Nobody is questioning where your heart is at.
It's where your head is at that has us panicking.
There is no need to make a fire out of this, Sweet. I am only making myself available as a candidate. If the eIrish people want me as a CP, they will vote for me. If they don't then they will vote for someone else. I leave the decision in their capable hands.
There is no need for us to bicker. I apologize for my part in perpetuating this argument. We all want a stronger Eire, and we are all entitled to our different methods of reinforcing our country.
