The DAL Writers' Challenge
Dominik
The quality of journalism is generally bad. Let's face it: vote buying, one-picture articles and all-around poorly-thought-out stuff. Historically, the DAL has been supportive of the arts and culture and I want to bring that aspect back. Hence, I am proud to reveal.... the DAL Writers' Challenge.
How it works: we announce a topic and anybody who has a newspaper in Canada can write on said topic. So long as they put the [WC] tag anywhere into the title of their article (e.g. "[WC] Why Vote-buying degrades journalism"). All articles appearing with that tag until the deadline (two or three days from when the contest opens) will be graded by our multipartisan panel of judges. At the moment, this consists of:
Plugson (head judge)
Dominik
Addy Lawrence
Acacia Mason
Banach
The averages of the grades will be taken and the winner will recieve all the prize money (funded by the DAL). Normally, the prize money will be 10 GOLD. However, since this is the first edition and we need to attract writers, the prize will be a whopping 15 GOLD! This will all go to the top writer.
So, let's get on with this week's contest. As has been mentioned, the winner will recieve 15 GOLD. The contest opens at midnight today (Sunday) and will close at midnight on Wednesday. Anything written on the topic with the [WC] tag will be graded and entered into the contest. No need to contact any of us, just write away.
This week, we will have 4 topics to choose from since it's the first week.
1. "Multi-working general managers"
2. "A time of peace, a time of inner-conflict"
3. "Ad module lost, a better world?"
4. "Election platforms - better than spam"
There are a few basic rules to keep in min😛
-There is a semi-strict 700 word limit. Going over is not a huge deal, but if you go too far to embellish your article, it will cost you.
-No leniency on the deadlines.
-Plagiarism will result in disqualification and most likely a life-time ban from the contest.
-We make the topics open-ended enough to allow creativity to grow. However, if the panel unanimously decides that you are completely off-topic, your article will not be judged.
-Not encouraging you to break eRepublik's rules. Not that we care, but if the article gets taken down, we probably won't be able to judge it.
So start writing away as soon as that clock hits midnight, eRep time (Pacific). The winner of the 15 GOLD will be announced sometime Thursday.
Good luck!

oh also, if your submission has bought votes, its disqualified.
that being said, im looking forward to seeing what everyone can come up with!
Only for DALers? Excuse me?

Huh? Where did anything say it's only for DALers? It has nothing to do with the DAL except that the party is supplying the prize money, hence it is the DAL Writers' Challenge. Had Coca-Cola donated towards the prize money, it would have been the Coca-Cola Writers' Challenge.
Oh I just read the title and totally skimmed the article so that's why I didn't realize it was for everybody. Lol
The funny thing is all of those people can write better than Wes Lewis. lol
.... But none can rage quite as well.
Looking forward to seeing some quality journalism eCanada...lets see what you got!
Hopefully this will help kick-start our media : D
Not the best topics, but o well
i love how you admit that your judgment on banach is ill informed. why should anyone care what you say when you yourself recognize that you have no real reason for saying it?
sanchez, a good writer can write on any topic. and for the record, those were picked by plugson, and i think they're quite good choices
Just would have picked something for everyone, Scorpius when you walk into a buffet your looking for what you want to eat not what other's what want you to eat, Personally A little more variety wouldn't have hurt...
5. What do you think of the Rise of the MDP
6. Whats your opinion on the current state of the economy and how has it affected you and everyone else.
7.(having nothing along the lines of the DAL was silly) Why do so many flock the DAL
8. Election Rundown
9. If you could add any feature to the game what would it be
Variety never hurt anyone
5, 7, and 8 are all political. we're trying to avoid this being a partisan thing, as Dom said, its merely something the DAL is funding, for the benefit of the media.
frankly i think the 4 topics we picked show a whole lot of variety. it is my opinion that if a writer cant find something to say about one of them they wouldnt really win anyway, hahaha
hmmmmm, I might just attempt to prove you wrong then, and give all the gold to the MDP to make you MAD
MUAHAHAUAHAHA
Wes, I appreciate your unfounded concern towards my literary ability.
Let me just tell you that I'm halfway through Grade 8 so I can write super well!
I'm excited to be a part of this.
Go write people.
^ Banach is back?
lolwut?
You missed the memo.
Oh dear God, people.
"Dominik (The worst half of the DAL founders)"
I'm gonna ignore this since you weren't even around and have no idea who, what or why the DAL was founded.
"Banach (No clue who this is, I am just gonna say he can't until I see) "
Oh, lawd. you just really revealed your idiocy, didn't you? Banach was the Plugson of his generation.
"hmmmmm, I might just attempt to prove you wrong then, and give all the gold to the MDP to make you MAD
MUAHAHAUAHAHA "
You have fun with that. I doubt you will win judging by the posts of yours I've seen, but you are free to do as you like with your prize money if you do.
As for the topics, they were all suggested by the great head judge Plugson and they are all great topics. When you have too many topics, it becomes hard for judges to compare them. The first week is an exception in that it has 4. The others will have 1. Let's try not to waste all of our ideas on the first week. Thank you for the suggestions, sanchez.
I'm excited to see quality journalism revived. Happy to see you revived too, Banach.
Good luck to all participants, but if you deserve it, you wouldn't need it at all.

^not my best work, for 15 min pretty good
Because I sucked on your mother's dry clitoris.
I guess that french articles don't count, don't they :/
I would like to point one thing about the Gread Topic Debate. Each represents a separate aspect/module of the game:
(Economic) 1. "Multi-working general managers"
(War/Society) 2. "A time of peace, a time of inner-conflict"
(Media) 3. "Ad module lost, a better world?"
(Politics) 4. "Election platforms - better than spam"
I banged those out in 3 minutes before going to bed, so that "spam" thing was a bit excessive and only there for a humour - feel free to ignore.
I'm not sure how many of our judges are bilingual. I'm afraid I don't speak French, not sure about the others.
I speak French. But definitely not well enough to fairly judge an article written in Quebecois.
I can read French well enough to get the basic meaning but the artistic merit would be totally beyond me.
Maybe to make it fair, all of the articles should be written in a neutral language...like Icelandic?
Icelandic sounds good to me... Or maybe swahili?
What about Latin, then no one will understand it!
Sola lingua bona est lingua mortua.
Well, when you know a bit of french and spanish, latin isn't that hard.
"The only good language is a dead language"
Read Sanchez Shorties 7th title recomendation.
"Why so many people flock the DAL"
I lol'd, thanks shortie
