There sure be some RL in my eRep sometimes...

Chocolate McSkittles
As a mechanics minded player of this strategy game, I very often cringe at the idea of people bring the "real world" into the "new world". As I've argued again and again, it's just not a viable comparison...
But that's not what this article is about. Actually, quite the contrary.
In those rare occasions that we leave the shelter of our mothers basements, we hear all the time that the "media is dead".
eUSA, I hate to be the one to break the news...Our media is dead.
You see, not too long ago during a little war we like to call "World War 3", I remember walking all the way to the media module (10 miles uphill both ways) and seeing the top 20 articles.
I remember the amount of support we gave each-others writing was huge. A top 20 article was 150 votes, top 10 was 300, and top 5 was easily over 400 each. Articles were released and nearly washed away in the flood of articles from the "latest articles", subs really mattered.
Then things started to worse and worse. The media started to feel like a bunch of cheap one liners for votes, where "a picture is worth a thousand words" got mathematically transfigured into people deciding that posting a bunch of pictures is "media"

Eh, shes scantily clad and reading a newspaper (thus relevant)...that's at least 10% more votes, right?
To fix this, congress tried to present awards to decent writers, but that didn't receive much enthusiasm and fell into disuse.
Look at where we are now...top 20 is a scant 33 votes? Really?
But the votes are just a symptom. In a chicken vs egg argument I don't care to get into, good writers were discouraged from writing by a lack of support, and stopped writing. As a result, people stopped checking the media. Because people stopped checking the media, writiers got discouraged and stopped writing....you get the point.
Maybe its just our culture? I wrote an article in Croatia yesterday that got 800 votes and 170 subs. I don't even know if half those people care about domestic American problems They supported a friend.
America, I bring to you a question.
What went wrong and how do we fix it?

eRep went wrong and we fix it by getting someone rich and competent to buy the damn game.
You need a war
Votes in top 20 dive on the weekends, but good points all around. eUSA is bleeding talent atm. :/
We need more Samuel Seabury articles, imo.
good luck revitalizing your media.
We need more Choc articles.
I'll promise to write more if you do.
DoD orders aren't getting votes, for god sakes. The problem isn't content, it's enthusiasm, if you ask me.
1) At least part of that is our fiscal recession (in game). Part goes to the gold drain via Lana, the maps too. The games becoming more expensive.
2) Then there's the Admin fails, and the glitches.
3) But mostly, it's old timers burning out. Malaise setting in.
It's cyclicle, the malaise and burnout. Stick around and prove me wrong.
Choc...
i think many of us who are still in the game want to deny it..but it is real. the game is DYING already! 🙁 The amount of cheats/bugs/multies/unfairness ... it made it meaningless to keep writing. 🙁
Egg was first 😃
support for choc and eUS media!!!

"You need a war "
True words. When there is something to write about, media will fill again with interesting stuff to read for the general public. I guarantee I will do my part once Liaoning is attacked.
HUR PHX SUPRFAILMAXX 😕= good writing.
Choc, the reason I rarely write is that part of the country won't vote for anything I publish on principle and a small part mass report me. Further more, a decent editorial article only gains me about 6 subs per issues. There's just not enough benefit in writing them.

well, you got my vote for this article , but i'm from Romania :>
and subbed
You need a war. We kinda had the same problem in Romania... but after the war with the huns started, our media went crazy... 700 votes to get in top 5 and 450 to get in top 10 at its peak.
We need to get invaded again. Perhaps we should talk to Poland and Romania?
I remember last year when we were arguing about hospitals and everyone thought they were tied to retention, I made the argument that hospitals don't interest people a compelling story does.
I stand by my statement, we as a country lack that compelling story-line. In the past we have had invasions, RPing, Dio, and other story-lines to keep people coming back. Not only will it go a long way towards fixing our media, but I would wager a bet that it will help with retention as well.
There is a positive to this. The low number of votes needed to break top 5 has gotten my article on the US Airborne placed in a prominent position. This not only helps me by boosting my recognition and subscriber base, it helps out the military. Quite frankly though, the fact that this is the first military recruiting article that's been in the top 5 for many months is ridiculous. Our media needs fixing.
Choc, I really haven't written much because, unfortunately, there isn't much going on 😕
I blame Gates
Don't worry Choc I will fix the media
yup, onishi
NEEDS MORE COWBELL
I agree though, media really hit the skids in the last few months
I used to check the media for updates on wars and interesting articles now I don't even check, because to tell you the truth all our good writers have left
The USA also lost 2 of it's top media moguls on the same day. And a third 2 weeks before.
