Hospitals, Again...

And again and again and again. The same zombie arguments keep coming up and frankly it pisses me off. As someone who grew up through the Great Invasion, I saw how a distributed population helped our enemies. I saw New Jersey fall in a day even though it had Q5's and 3500 people there. I saw our enemies bring us to the brink of defeat and pause when they saw the wall of the 9000-man Floridian resistance.
So everyone, STFU about hospitals. Especially Aeros. Bring some statistics to the party or srsly GTFO. Because all you are doing is inciting a riot of uninformed newbies and deluded vets.
Hospitals will increase retention! WRONG. You can't even use a hospital for the first week of eLife, by then 90% are long gone, if not more.
Strong countries have lots of Hospitals! WRONG. Look how many countries around the globe are switching to the Fortress Strategy. We haven't wiped the Hospitals in Indonesia and Hungary yet, expect them to install fortresses after we do.
Let's at least try it out! WRONG. Infrastructure is permanent. There is no test here, it's all or none. We can't get rid of crappy Q2 hospitals once they are made. Q5 or bust!
But look at New York-- WRONG. New York has no resources we need to protect, and at least one hostile border. We have already seen the 'value' of having two Eastern Seaboard fortresses. It failed miserably.
We could use a couple more Q5's! WRONG. New Jersey fell in one day with 3500 people there. Our fortresses need to have BARE MINIMUM of 5000 population. Karnataka doesn't even count as a fortress, more like a fortified forward position.
But Zoli said-- WRONG. If you guys are so sheepish to listen to a prominent Hungarian propagandist, who laughed the last time his alliance rolled through us and destroyed all our infrastructure, then GTFO.
But they're free! WRONG. Max pays out of his own pocket for the companies, resources, and wages for these projects. Many prominent citizens donate their labor to the cause. But that doesn't make them free by any stretch of the imagination.
Elitists are holding us down! WRONG. The eUS Government is filled with dozens of people who work tirelessly to make this browser game entertaining for you. If anything, the elitists are the ones that have too many Media Mogul medals and don't bring any actual facts to the debate.
NO CHANGE IN INFRASTRUCTURE UNTIL v2
NO CHANGE IN INFRASTRUCTURE UNTIL WE RETURN KARNATAKA
If we do get a mega babyboom, we have seven days to place infrastructure before they can even use it the first time. It takes 24 hours for Congress to pass the law.
Full-size pic
This was our infrastructure before the invasion. Retention was worse then than it is now. Zoli and others like him used our media to convince us to waste our money on more infrastructure right before they swept through and destroyed it all.
And still, you people don't learn from the mistakes of the past and choose to sheepishly fall into stale debate routines.
Zoli knows that every piece of gold we spend on infrastructure, donated or not, is one less gold we have to attack him and his friends. Do you really want Zoli to win? Really? Srsly?

Good article. At least someone remembers. 😉

How about the statistics about the number of FM's in the game now? The walls in California and Florida are crap now. If Phoenix were in striking range of them now, they could take them. The eUS Military alone is approaching 1 million damage. The Huns are babybooming and even the VJCS has said the fortress strategy is unsustainable. We either grow or die in this game.
>We either grow or die in this game.
And new hospital placement will not change that one bit. Education and retention, not new infrastructure, will be what helps us to grow.
You speak of the two like they are mutually exclusive of each other. I have never said we trade one for the other. I am saying we need both.
I want Zoli to lose.
I think most people are approaching this as an all or nothing situation, it is not.
Maybe we need to pump tons of money into the Welcoming committee to get more people involved in it. Encourage people to get on the erep chat rooms and help out the newbs hanging out there.
The discussion is not "more hospitals?" it is "how do we increase our retention rate?"
Let's keep that in mind.
for those who love the hospital debate and would like to read the same (confess it, everybody loves this debate)again and again but in spanish, you are welcome to the spanish press, chats or forums xD
While I agree with System0101 that education is the most important, the truth is we suck at it and I don't see it improving ,as the logistics of getting the message out to new players is pretty much insane.
Personally I was able to fight before I figured out how hospitals worked and where they were and ended up screwed with a low wellness. This is the point at which I considered quitting and many other probably do quit.
It's true that we can't take the experiment back, but why not try a single Q2 in Texas or NY, and then examine the difference (or lack thereof) in retention. That will give us a UP TO DATE comparison of the two strategies. I apologize for my lack of statistics (as a archaeologist an unsupported argument kills me personally) but I speak from personal experience. Try it out in one state if it's really that bad have Canada take it over and wipe the hospital.
To system101:
The Infrastructure Committee of eUS's Congress actually determined that a base population of 6000, not 5000, is needed, but your words are much appreciated, in any case, by this former InfraComm Chair. 🙂
To system101 and everyone else:
I think the newbies of this generation feel like this debate has to happen and, for anyone who WASN'T there when we were reduced to one fortress, forced to live in exile there in terrible economic conditions, forced to send our land workers to eGreece as we waited for the inevitable hammer of PEACE to fall on our heads... this debate is new.
I feel like every generation of eAmericans have to have this debate, and I know it's in us to question the "elite" or the "old guard" but, trust me, as someone who was a newbie when we were being defeated left and right by four different countries on a daily basis, this debate doesn't HAVE TO happen again.
Nothing good will come of going through and making the country the same way it was before PEACE GC tore down our infrastructure. Nothing good will come of distributing our population among many hospitals, whether they be Q2 or Q5 or Q10 (not a real thing).
The only thing that will happen will be that we will put time, resources, and valuable defense points (when a region is attacked, people factor into the defense points equation) in places that have little to no strategic value and certainly, certainly no value to our economy as a whole. Does that sound like a good thing to you?

HEAR HEAR!
Here's another idea as this argument is about retention and not just hospitals.
Has anyone ever considered a government "workfair" program instead of "welfare"? Work for the gov't, better the economy+ better communication through a few companies. Getting Fired all the time in the beginning is kinda a downer. Companies that teach citizens how to work instead of just firing the crap noob/zombie employees would probably be the biggest help in player retention. Give noobs something solid to do and an easy method of contacting them. Then use the proceeds to help fund gifts and moving tickets for zombies/new players.
I'm not sure how practical this is in reality or if it's been attempted previously that's for the higher ups to work out.
Just another idea
/argument
Americans become arrogant again thinking they can wipe out Indonesia...
Anyways, fortresses only work with regions with many regions.
"Anyways, fortresses only work with regions with many regions."
*barfs*
Thank you Astra for correcting my figure, I'll keep that in mind for future arguments 🙂
Also:
>Anyways, fortresses only work with regions with many regions.
This is an Indonesian dividing by zero 😃
>Has anyone ever considered a government "workfair" program instead of "welfare"? Work for the gov't, better the economy+ better communication through a few companies.
There was a time in this eRepublik country, a time before the invasion of PEACE, when some people would've shouted "COMMUNISM! Socialism! Down with--" whatever. You get the point. 😉
I just thought you'd like to know, however, that there are already companies like that. 🙂
The main government one is Fort Harlot Weapons, run by ligtreb (of Welcoming Committee fame), but the Welcoming Committee also provides some work for newbies (probably also run by ligtreb, lol). I've seen private citizens such as Max McFarland 2 and Colin Lantrip running newbie companies too. Such companies, whether they be government-owned or private businessman-owned, send helpful messages to their employees.
🙂
