May the Best Candidate Win!

My first term as President is almost over and I would like to share a few things I have learned and see as we transition to a new term.
Let me first say that I was quite surprised at the National Goals set by my opponents. I know I set a precedent last month by having high goals for the country, only one of which we will probably achieve. However, this system is meant to bring pride to our citizens and inspire national unity. I set mine at 1% because I want Ireland to have a chance at more than 1 monument next month. We all know that the system calculations are very flawed but nonetheless, let's play the game.
Now, I try to be sympathetic when new players scream that we must invade Northern Ireland. It's a huge topic for RL Ireland, I get it. Every 2-3 months the idea even gains enough momentum to influence elections. Fortunately, in my elifetime, it has never been acted on - this would be truly disasterous. Even to support the idea in a public election is dangerous.
I am glad to see such a diverse and full field of Presidential candidates. A new generation of players is making a name for themselves in the halls of power. Only a few remain from the first generation, even the much admired Michael Collins left recently. I see this as a healthy process and am delighted to see the positive exchange of knowledge and power.
There has been alot of talk recently about 'oligarchy'. I can tell you with confidence that this is simply not the case. The in-game government system, including Ireland's, is set up as a Republic. This means that a small group of elected leaders make decisions for the whole, this simply the way it works. With this in mind, we must be careful to avoid 'cronyism'. Any President who choses his Cabinet based on party or personal connections instead of merit and experience only makes himself and his county weak. To be honest, I still don't know which party some of my ministers belong to 😉
To finish up, I hope we all learn from eIreland's history and use it to grow our country. Next term's President is in for some hard work. I hope to be that President but I know Ireland will make the right decision. May the best Candidate win!

Apple, I always liked you bro...
But...
"Next term's President is in for some hard work"
So was last month's President, mate...
Actually, I'll leave it there...
I think you cop my jive.
been a pleasure working for you and hope to see ya in the big seat once again!
Ok, let's get this straight. Is a president's success and work ethic based on how visible he is in the media or how much he got done in his term?
I feel I accomplished quite a bit in my term. True, I was not as media active as Patton was. I spent more time on IRC, the Forums and working directly with my Cabinet. These are the places where a President should be because this is were the real work is done.
@Don: You have been invaluable this term and I hope to continue our partnership!
"Is a president's success and work ethic based on how visible he is in the media or how much he got done in his term? "
Mixture of both. You have never been the most active person in the media so its not really a surprise it has showed in your presidency, but its not the end of the world, even though it would have been a plus.
@Apple - The problem is visibility, you could be the best president ever behind the scenes, and be constantly doing things, but if people dont either see progress, or hear about updates, they tend to not realise whats going on... Thus you look bad!
5n4keyes said exactly what I was going to say.
Appleman this is a sensible Article in a recent spat on the media of Inflammatory Articles. I don't begrudge you of your optimism in your National Goals at all, as the Game has recently had various difficulties.
Still courteous as ever 🙂
I hope you do win this time round

He is right about NI, and you don't have to be visible to be a good president.
Moomoohead for President!!!

"you don't have to be visible to be a good president."
I would have to disagree with you JJ it's better if the public (who at the end of the day vote you in or not) are keep informed off what you have acheived, then what would be precived to be business behind closed doors by a President that may not even be active (It happened before it'll happen again) it would be better even to pass it on to the MoI what you are doing if you don't want/don't have time to write an article yourself.
@ Moo and Daniel: Spamming other candidates article's is not cool that's what you have papers and ads for 😉
I don't even belong to a party any more! *waves from South Korea*
Good luck to all the candidates! Vote Moo!
