And no, it's not that we are still here playing this game (although that should probably be #2)

Has anyone else been watching Cosmos: A Space Time Odyssey?
I've been enjoying it thus-far. What do you think?

We're all in this together.
I have every episode of Carl Sagan's Cosmos. The new one is very much like it. Just updated.
Yeah I've heard they really tried to stay true to the original. The tribute to Sagan in the first ep with his day planner left me all misty eyed.
Have the old one but haven't seen the new version. Will have to get a copy over the weekend
Makes you feel so small doesn't it.
The cartoons are a bit hokey and seem like a bizarre format for what ended up being a rather long winded documentary on a couple of British scientists.
Overall the show's alright but it's far from the best science show out there. BBC shows are generally top notch and just as polished. There's some British series that's been playing on TVO(ntario) at the same time. We've been flipping to it during the commercial breaks and at times it's gotten me hooked enough to not feel to rushed to rush back to Cosmos.
Great show.
As Chochi said, best science show we have to watch.
Lol. I actually said not the best. I haven't seen the original and don't know the plan for the rest but if there are another 10 episodes, I guess they're really going to be going all over the place in terms of what is covered. I prefer a more focused approach, mini-series that deal with one particular issue in more detail.
The best one I've seen lately was probably a BBC two-parter called "Everything" and "Nothing". "Everything", if I remember correctly, dealt with the scientific discoveries in astronomy. There's a bit of hard science but not as much as nothing which eventually delves into particle physics.
I blame it on being late 😛
Interesting, that something I definitely want to look into! Thanks
You should try and track down the original if you are into this stuff. The graphics etc aren't as good but at the time they were amazing
\o/
I am purposely avoiding it.
I will binge-watch the series when it's done 🙂
I'm disappointed that they present so many theories as fact. There is far too much we do not know and when we do that, we close our minds to new ideas.
I found them very apt at carefully presenting hypotheses as merely hypotheses and nothing more.
Theories are presented as fact, because theories are facts proven by observation. Don't fall into the failure of language and equate 'theory' with 'best guess'.
Scientific theories ARE facts.
A scientific theory has a preponderance of evidence confirming it, and no evidence that outright disproves it yet. It is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method
Cell Theory, Dynamo Theory, Big Bang Theory, Theory of relativity, Theory of Evolution, Theory of Plate tectonics, Valence Bond Theory.
If a theory has not been substantially proven by the scientific community, then it is still just a HYPOTHESIS. You are confusing the word "theory" we use in everyday english with the the word "theory" used in scientific vernacular. While they both refer to suppositions, the scientific version refers to a well-proven system of ideas. The everyday english word refers to a supposition that is not yet tested, like a when a detective has a theory about who committed a crime, but has not found the evidence, yet.
No. A theory is still a theory, and many of them are collapsing.
Many of todays popular figures in science are ego-maniacs, and their attitudes are no better than religion.
Check out the Electric Universe or Thunderbolts Project.
Really? So, plate tectonics isn't really happening, because we use the vernacular "theory" to describe it?
The theory of relativity is still an applicable rule of nature. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule in the extremes. At the heart of a black hole, or the moment of the big bang, or with a few ultra rare particles. But that doesn't make it any less true.
I know religious people want evolution to not be true. But there are repeatable/verifiable experiments and studies that prove it, again an again. Bacteria evolving in a lab to adapt to a new food source, and the extensive fossil record showing the path of minor changes. DNA analysis, showing the relation of all animals (even man) on earth.
Science is always growing, and some ideas do get left behind over time. But accepted scientific theories are still the best facts we can prove with the information available to us at the time. That's completely different from people who just say "because it's magic". If there are no verifiable facts behind a theory, it is just a hypothesis. That is what Unum is thinking of... a hypothesis (not a theory).

You wish, Tem's mother wouldn't touch you with your mum's dick
Bro, my mom is dead 😕
The Earth is flat, if we travel to far from shore we run the risk of falling off. Also the Sun and Moon race each other in chariots. Stars are made of fairy dust that is scattered on the night curtain that hide the gods from our view.
Not an American are you?
I guessed number 2.

To a time traveler like myself, it's kind of been there done that.
luvin it
The most astonishing fact is that it's directed by Seth MacFarlane
