You can order warm biscuits and gravy at virtually every truck stop and diner in the country -- especially in the South, but really just about anywhere in the U.S. Even 7-11 offers warm biscuits and gravy (at least where I live) -- though I'm not sure how warm (or how good) the biscuits actually are. National Biscuits and Gravy Day is so important, it's celebrated twice a year, on December 14th and February 21st. No joke.

Funny you say that, because it's reminiscent of a similar dish called "shit on a shingle" (S.O.S.), which consists of creamed, chipped beef on toast. It's commonly served at breakfast in Army mess halls, where it may have originated. SOS isn't especially tasty, but it sticks to the ribs and keeps you aware that you've had breakfast for a rather long while afterwards.
