Special Election Edition
Anthony Colby
Once again as I see who is getting votes and who is not I see a large number of candidates who I have no idea who they are or what they have done for Ireland. No forum posts, no newspaper articles, just part of a machine designed to get 5 gold. Well there are many who would do great things for this country who are not getting the votes they deserve. People who post every day on the forum, contribute to the growth and improvement of Ireland. Former President Savage has one vote while people I have never even heard of have four or five. Citizen Snap a current TD at this time will not even get elected while others going for the gold are in easy. What does this say for our country? I don't know. Do you.
Do a little research about who you are going to vote for. Make sure they are worthy of your vote.
Ireland depends on it.
Vote intelligently.

"😉o a little research about who you are going to vote for. Make sure they are worthy of your vote."
Please do that folks!
It probably has something to do with party vote management too?
From a parties point of view it's better to have an inactive person in the Dail rather than someone who may or may not vote against them.
P.S. Vote Connell in the south-east, running under Saoirse
Labour know all of our official candidates.
Sadly OJ who was going to write an article on them had some RL issues and so didnt have time.
If they are inactive on the forum it is because they have seen nothing to post about, they are all registered and will participate if elected.
Valid Point though, a lot of inactive players are getting elected.
Thats a pretty bad thing.
Agreed.
I have no problem with efficient party management and good campaign strategy. You do the work you should be rewarded. It is just hard to see good people who contribute and are very active not get elected. Activity and hard work should count for something over party and politics. Just sayin.
Some people contribute and post but they do not actually talk to people. Elections are won before they happen by securing votes. Presidential candidates do it on a larger scale by courting parties. If someone isnt getting their votes that means they didnt message specific people asking for votes. That is how you win
I guess some of my frustration is from having lived in an eCountry where every election was filled with PTO candidates. Old habits.
"people I have never even heard of have four or five."
So this means that only people you know are good enough for The Dáil?
This is just not how this happens ...
No I never said that only people I know should get elected. But my point is that I am around everyday. I post regularly on the forum and am very active. While I don't know everyone I at least know who most people are. I am wondering what areas of the game or what circles other players travel in that I may be missing out on and can I do to become a better player. While I know I am not very active on IRC because I have limited amounts of long periods when I can log in, I do read many paper articles and contribute to the forum regularly. What else am I missing? More importantly how are people who don't use the forum regularly or publish articles that often getting their message across? How can I do the same.
I hate how people vote for those who do not even bother with a presentation.
I imagine thats politics everywhere, but it does suck. I imagine one or two of the IUP candidates will be inactive or switch parties after the election. Such is elife.
Well u got in, which I'm glad to see, but your overall message is true, pParty vote management isn't in the interests of the nation.
But it can be overcome by pm'ing potential voters, and ask them to vote for you, explaining why,
The onus is on party leaders to pick candidates that will do there best for the country and of course there party. Picking an inactive player is counter productive anyway the dail needs a decent shake up to get the country moving.
To be fair, nearly every presentation I click on fails to link for whatever reason...
My thoughts exactly, but what can you do. Congrats Anthony, about time!
Thanks to everyone who responded. I appreciate the input.
Indeed. Good article.
Labour uses vote management. We have an abundance of active players and pick those who we feel will do the best job when elected. We guarantee votes to those who are both active and enthusiastic about making a contribution to Ireland.
So, tbh, I do not think vote management is at all to blame. Perhaps the selection process for those who receive support is flawed in some way.
Anyway, any congress member who has been elected and is reading this, I would urge them to make checking the forum once or twice a day a part of their daily "clicks". Part of the problem I feel is that for days on end there is NOTHING on the forum and players just fall into the habit of not bothering to check it for that reason.
Voted Mr. Colby. I got in and will do my best - while I don't post often on the forums I do write a few articles now and then but I agree - I wonder what would happen if the gold was taken away as an incentive to run for office. It should be taken away.
So have you ever heard of me? I right articles and get on the forums. I generally don't post anything but I keep up to date. I also get on our national chat... speaking of which I've never seen you on there. My point isn't that your inactive its just that others get around without ever being seen by some. And my guess is you thought of me as someone who was trying to get the gold when in fact all that I got was donated somehow to less fortunate players who need to get there wellness up. Ive donated houses and such to people One person in particular was Manoray. So don't go around assuming things like that just because you haven't seen them.
P.S. That's how you get elected. Be nice to those that will vote for you.
@Murphy. I'm sorry if you took my comments personally. Did you read further down in the comments where I explained a little better than I did in the article. While some are out for the gold and parties do elect people who are not active so they have fewer votes against them in the Dail, my point was that if some players are traveling in other circles besides the forum and articles and the IRC I would like to know what they are. I did explain my limited time on IRC. I know that is not to my benefit and understand that. I don't know everyone, but I do at least recognize your name. I hold no ill feelings towards you and I applaud your helping of other players. Very noble and it is good for Ireland. But in my experience and I don't think I am too far off, is that usually when an election comes around and there are names that you don't know or have few or no posts on the forum or papers then they are suspect. Not all. But many are. I just tried to make sure to remind people to know who you are voting for. On the forum in the Dail there is a current thread about citizenship given without authorization. You never know.
I always try to be nice to everyone. Not just those who would vote for me. Well not everyone. Redcoats don't count.
@ Anthony Colby
Redcoats never count. Just remember tho. there are people out there that you wont know. I had my own business and when i sold it i got about twice as much as i put into it. So with that some of my employees (the ones that were decent to me) got some good bonuses. I guarantee they voted for me. And stuff like that will get you more votes so its not just about the forums its about the people you run into. Thats all. Thats what i was trying to explain to you.
@ Murphy McManus. Thanks, that is the stuff I was looking for. Anyone who gets votes through hard work, loyalty and honest dealings deserves all the votes they get. I would vote for them too. We do have to watch out for the others though.
