[POTUS Poll] Proving party primaries work.
fingerguns
The party primary process that relies on a representative democracy has already established that Cerb is the candidate. He won most of the primaries in a landslide (in some cases by completely unanimous vote). In one of those primaries, however, he was tied (10-10).
Cerb will win a popular vote handily. Kinda makes you wonder why we're doing one.
Representative democracy works. The largest and most active chunk of the population sits in the Top 5 and after debate and discussion it was determined unequivocally that Cerb should be the Unity candidate. After releasing a few articles and taking the time to answer voter questions on eNPR, he won the majority of primaries.
USWP- Cerb
AMP- Cerb
Feds- Cerb
WTP- split
AFA is a terrorist organization and will be running an enemy to try and take over the country, drain our treasury and ally us with enemy nations. Screw their vote. THEY are the reason we need a Unity candidate.
This poll will confirm what we already know and help prove how legitimate the party primaries are.

Representative democracy is always the best way....There's no point in doing a national primary just for the sake of doing one when we already know what the outcome will be
Cerb is WAR and war is good for business! 😃
Voted. Waiting for Ichabod to show up.
Oh he'll be here soon enough.
waah waaah why doesn't my favorite niche candidate win? ;___________________;
yeah, I put PQ as the SFP nominee while waiting for the conclusion of the Unity Candidate vote. Good to see he is getting some votes though.
I would've loved it if JD and PQ actually campaigned for the job. Then we coulda had a debate and like asked them questions and learned about what it is they want to do with the Presidency and the direction they think we should be going.
Maybe next time.

A unity candidate is one that is supported by most parties. If anyone other than Cerb wins this poll, it will mean that many parties would have their decisions ignored rather than the small minority.
And if you are very upset about the minority being overruled, you obviously don't understand how democracy works.
Voted... and voted. :3
What if we got organized?
What if ANY party were allowed to hold a POTUS primary?
This poll system could be a good way to do that. The votes could be controlled to only allow members of the party but the results would be public. This way every party that wanted a say in the decision would be able to.
Why are only 100 some people voting!! It needs to be advertised!!
[POTUS Poll] Proving party primaries work, but a Popular Vote gains more participation and greater voice for a wider audience!
It gets more participation because the active parties are forced to promote this for you.
Regardless, we already know what the results will be. That's why this is stupid.
Giving voice to the widest possible audience is never stupid, in my opinion, regardless of the eventuality or inevitability of the outcome.
Again, in my opinion.
Well then you're welcome for promoting it so it actually has hope of looking like a 'popular poll.'
I willing to bet the majority of the eUSA likes the idea of a public national potus primary...
What about the idea of letting every party that wanted to be involved have one of these polls? If only the top 4 want one that's fine but at least the other parties would have a chance to run a primary if they wanted. The votes would be controlled to only include the party members but the results of that poll could be public...
The party leaders could mass message and use the party feed to get members to participate.
The POTUS hopefuls would actually have someone to campaign to.
And the voice of the people would be more wide spread.
Then we could hold a national primary of the top candidates or just the candidate who won the majority of the primaries will be unity candidate.
This whole process is going to have to be a lot more organized though.
I'd say that first interested parties would have to state that they want a poll and a voice in the election.
Once there is a list of parties the POTUS hopefuls would then ask the parties to be included in the primaries and start campaigning.
All party primaries would need to begin and end on the same day with party leaders running their own poll through messages to party members and the party feed.
With this everyone who wants a voice could have one.
No one would have to join a forum just to vote. It would all be in game.
The votes would be secure by only allowing party members to vote.
All the primary results would be public.
By giving everyone a chance to have a voice you could then run the candidate with the most party primary wins as the unity candidate without leaving a large part of the citizenship left out.
"Well then you're welcome for promoting it " ~fg
All thanks to Mike for coding it, and Cerb for demanding a popular mandate of this kind. He's a wise man.
You needn't promote it all if you'd prefer not to, freedom of choice and all that. But the more available polling places, the better. The people thank you fg for all of your work on this process, and thank you for all the support of it that you have provided.
I'm willing to bet ALL OF MY POGS that people care more about the substance of these candidates than how long we can drag out the process of nominating and voting (when no one seems to require so much as an article to put them on the ballot).
I know you guys keep saying that a vast majority of the population prefers your poll, but you can't get a poll with enough support to actually find out. Not yet.
Mike, I know your goal is to help simplify. I think we can figure out a way to do that.
The game doesn't require an article to put them on a ballot, just a party nomination mechanically. We aren't re-writting eRep here, at least not my goal anyway.
If eRep makes T5 parties have the only POTUS vote, I'll certainly never ask for an in game meta-vote again in any Unity Election which mimics their system. Just mimicing those mechanics as much as we can.
But if we have the opportunity to make elections more about substance AND participation, why wouldn't we?
The outcome of any issue in this game will always be better when using "How do we include as many people/groups as possible?" as a guide.
Voting...How do we include as many people/groups as possible?
Damage...How do we include as many people/groups as possible?
Community...How do we include as many people/groups as possible?
Fun...How do we include as many people/groups as possible?
Inclusion and consideration is never stupid, it just takes effort.
One of the big reasons TC was so successful as a newbie retention tool was because we bent over backwards to ensure that the people logging in everyday felt like they mattered. No matter how new they were or how low their damage was. They were important to us.
We need to start believing that our people matter, every one of them, not just acting like it when we asking for votes.
Thank you for assisting by putting the poll out today. Like Dinero and Phoenix, I wish it had been sooner. but I appreciate your effort.

You all act as though this experiment was a failure. I won't rehash what Mike and others have said because it is clear to everyone that had this poll been run in the WHPR, advertised in ALL government controlled media (DoD, Speakers Word, Pony Express...etc...) and shouted in every feed that the turn out would have been much bigger. What such a poll does is brings the game back into eRepublik and not on some forum controlled by one faction or another and that is why the 'Flufferist' hate it....
Ichabod, you're really not worth responding to, but just in case some fool takes you seriously-
The poll could've easily been run in WHPR. It could've easily been promoted heavily. The only reason it hasn't been so far is because it was determined to use this in the event of a tie. There was no tie. There was nothing even close to a tie. As many people as possible were included. 6th partiers got their voice.
The poll was put up anyway because...just because. There was no coordination.
I wish there had been coordination. Now you have the people in the top parties not bothering with this at all because 'as long as Cerb wins' they don't really care. They feel they already had their say. They aren't going to be bothered to nom, vote, vote again (but with extra steps) and then for real vote, especially when the other 2 candidates are late additions.
Cerb will win this. But the percentages won't be an accurate reflection because there is no reason to do this poll THIS TIME.
It'll only be worth it if it serves the need of those who need constant control.
What you are forgetting is only 5% of the population votes (mostly the political elite), you only care about the top 5 parties. In other words most of us could care less who the cp is as long as he gives us wars (current cp seems to be lacking that department) gives us full bonus (once again lacking) and fixes our ecconmy ( I know admins have screwed that puppy) for the rest who gives a flying fu**.

I still don't understand why we have to do this poll just because Dru got kicked from the forums for being a troll... That rhymes!
So long as we have the need for a Unity Candidate, we'll have a need for T4 Primaries followed by a nation-wide popular vote, to mimic eRep game mechanics.
This vote system gives no more, and no less, than the game itself provides.
In game, there is a popular vote following party nominations. And that's what this just was.
P simple.
New players: don't listen to the propaganda of the current government, which is desperately trying to maintain their chokehold on power, but no one has the right to call a President-elect before the 5th. All voters have a choice between Cerb as well as Savonrepus, a candidate from the AFA, which has been the subject of the worst smear campaign in eUS history. Just wait for the "terrorist party" slurs to roll in. Make up your own mind - don't let this author or anyone else tell you how to vote.

'I still don't understand why we have to do this poll just because Dru got kicked from the forums for being a troll... That rhymes!'
This has nothing to do with me and everything to do with bringing unity nominations in game where it belongs. That is exactly why the 'Flufferist' hate the idea, they can control any poll conducted on any forum; they can not control an in game poll. If nominations can be brought in game, so can Congress and the Forums become useless....
meh.... no boat

Dru Blood - your persecution complex is amusing but not rooted in reality.
@Dan Wang - you are a silly troll. You know the AFA is a PTO party and you willingly chose to work with them. Shame on you. PROTIP - It is not a smear campaign if people are just stating facts.
"I'm willing to bet ALL OF MY POGS that people care more about the substance of these candidates"
You, sir/mam/whatever you pretend to be, are frikkin delusional. If you think more than maybe 50 intelligent people on this entire planet give a shit about the substance of these candidates, you have truly lost your grasp on reality.
Vote for they guy who you think will make eRep more fun - not for the guy who pretends to "care".
According to people responding here, anyone who doesn't agree with you is a troll and a terrorist. Very mature and "democratic" guys and gals. 😉
