What's Congress Up To?
Derphoof
The Economy
Well, the big issue in Congress and in the game at large right now seems to center around the economy. Recently the admins burned the economy to the ground by adding Q7 companies to the mix. Wages have dropped and profits are slim for the companies in question. As such, the government accounts are slimming as taxes bring in less and less revenue. So the government is looking to take steps to keep the country afloat and away from bankruptcy.
Plato as he burns the Economy to the ground
Things That Have Been Done Or Proposed For The Economy:
Jacobi has vetoed any and all MU Building funding for the time being
ppdanny has proposed raising the income tax from 10% to 20%
If my memory proves right, I believe there was a proposal to cut MU funding to 80% for the time being.
Crisfire even brought up the interesting possibility of MU’s being self sufficent and cutting all funding to them. In this way taxes could be lessened to the lowest possible level as we only have to fund MPP’s and such.
So in conclusion, various ideas are being thrown around on the topic. Hopefully by the next article, we will have a solution to our current dilemma.
The Ambassador Corps
Another hot point of debate is the revival of the Ambassador Corps. While others may deem it unnecessary to have such a group, Jacobi feels it is a nice addition to FA and has proposed to bring it back. The ambassadors would be assigned to nations and would have to create a report about that nation on a bi weekly basis. However the biggest point of contention is the proposal in which the ambassadors are paid 500cc if they have been deemed to have satisfactory performance.
The proposal has reached a vote and is currently in favor of turning down the proposal.
More Forum Junk
Tyrael Snow has decided to put forth motions to get rid of the MU Building Act, The Mentor Corps and the Ambassador Corps. One interesting side-note is that while Jacobi is trying to revitalize the Ambassadors, his VP is trying to get rid of it.
Random Forum Votes!
Well... not quite
ppdanny has also brought forth a motion to re-ban Rolo from the forums and IRC. The results? The ban has been resoundingly opposed. Every vote at the moment happens to be “No” except for the lone “Abstain” in the group at this time
A motion was also brought forth by Crisfire to remove the Speaker of Congress. The voting is currently in favor of removal but has not yet reached quorum.
Now For Something Completely Different: A Commentary
“On day 1,724, the Wright brothers invent the Kitty Hawk 2, built entirely out of Olive Garden bread sticks stuck together by money.”-Tyrael Snow
That quote pretty much sums it up nicely! Basically, you can attack anyone that does not border you. Oh, except it cost an ungodly amount of money and food (Why? No one knows). Oh ,and you can’t gain from region bonuses. Oh, and to top it all off, its only available until day 1732.
So why the hell would anyone want to commence an airstrike? Well sir, that is a very good question. I have absolutely no idea. It sounds ludicrous! The only reason I can think of would be to harass small nations and conquer them simply because you can, or to establish a world-wide empire (Lookin at you Serbia). Otherwise, there’s really nothing to gain by doing this. I suspect its just Plato’s new attempt to get you to buy and spend gold during more wars and stuff.

Fair summary! Well done!
Voted. Nice to see communications from congress in game.
Another good article ElPato
Good summary and nice quote by Tyrael.
Airstrikes don't seem a viable option, even though it's the kind of battle tactic eCanada could really use due to our geography.
^.^
Voted for being quoted.
Also, getting to defy Jacobi's wishes and propose my own opinion is part of the glorious life of being in a true democracy, if we were unilateral on everything we'd just be a coalition.
what happened to the brolliance treate? has there been a vote? discussion?
Airstrike's could be useful for countries surrounded by enemies to relocate somewhere else. Bulgaria will be the first one to try to relocate to South America. We'll see how long will Brazil and Argentina let them stay. This could be useful to France or Germany to escape from the Polish. Maybe settling in Mexico surrounded by the US? That could guarantee a congress for some time.
Well, I suppose that explains why they need all the food and money...
Nothing is on the table being discussed or voted on regarding the treaty, Oliver. Are we supposed to be doing something related to that?
~hyuu~
hi plug...always amused concerning the election time sillyness: urgent PTO by hungarians, bombshells, voting down peace then announcing that peace has been achieved through great effort and diplomacy.. that kind of thing. So, no treaty then? Honesty and good faith is so complicated to understand that some want to write new laws that are even shorter, clearer, more comprehensible that "you must play honestly and in good faith". Treaty, shenanigans, new codification: seems related. 🙂.
Yes, quite related. Improv theatre is like that ~ anything remotely related can be introduced at any time to the skit. Then the old vein of humour is promptly dropped when something newer and quirkier enters the scene and we proceed onward until the next invention/interruption.
Not my favourite performance pieces anyhow ~ so hard to keep up with the non sequiturs
@Plugson:
Improv theater? Are you Carol Channing?

"Whose Line is It Anyway?" sums up Congress rather well. Sure, I'll be Ryan Stiles if you'll be my Drew Carey (though that would mean becoming Speaker, btw).
I call Colin Mochrie for shit n giggs
the part about reducing tax's to minimum and not funding MU;s was mostly tongue in cheek, but the Speaker impeachment wasnt
also good job plugging a huge hole and reporting the going's on in Congress
Yeah, I assumed the minmum tax thing was probably tongue in cheek, but it still sounds like an interesting idea. Although, I have no idea if it would ever be possible.
I am currently promoting funky's idea of going to minimal taxes and ppdanny has made a motion for 1% import tax on WRM.
Let's drop all imports to 1%
Drop income tax to 1%
Reduce VAT to 5%
Make the eCan economy competitive and a good place to sell
We have low prices but make many more sales with foreign buyers and those at home
We tax the buyers and leave workers and business alone. Attract more foreign buyers and you tax eCanadians less. Funding may go farther with lower prices, too.
All the taxes have to drop at once or it won't work. If you drop import tax but keep income high, then you kill eCan businesses. If you drop imports and income taxes, but keep VAT moderate to high, then you don't attract enough importers and foreign buyers because prices will still remain high
Make it a hot market with many more sales, then spread out the tax burden. Maybe Plato will chip in more currency too if he is trying to clear out our hotly stocked markets
Crazy idea 4 boring game
