20 august and it’s semnification
St. Stephen of Hungary was the first king of Hungary and he laid the foundation of the state by converting the Magyar people to Christianity.
After a serious military loss in 955 AD, Hungarian tribal leaders decided to abandon their nomadic existence. Stephen, the Grand Prince of the Hungarians, realised that conversion to Christianity would be a way of strengthening the idea of Hungarian nationhood. He received a crown from Pope Sylvester II becoming Hungary's first king in 1000 AD, ruling until his death on 15 August 1038. The Holy Crown has survived the centuries since and it is now Hungary's most precious treasure.
Stephen became a saint on 20 August 1083. He became the patron saint of Hungary. As part of the canonization process King Stephen's remains were dug up and legend has it that his right hand had not decayed at all. The hand was removed from the body and can still be seen in St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest.
Most popular legend
A pretty interesting legend involves cosmology and I would like the hungarian people or those who know about it to tell me if I am write or not about it (not so many info about legends and mythology).
In Hungarian myth, the world is divided into three spheres: the first is the Upper World (Felső világ), the home of the gods; the second is the Middle World (Középső világ) or world we know, and finally the Underworld (Alsó világ). In the center of the world stands a tall tree: the World Tree / Tree of Life (Világfa/Életfa). Its foliage is the Upper World, and the Turul bird dwells on top of it. The Middle World is located at its trunk and the underworld is around its roots. In some stories, the tree has fruit: the golden apples.
Upper Worl
😛
The gods and the good souls live in the Upper World. Gods have the same rank, although the most important figure of them is Isten (Hungarian for "God"). He controls the world, shapes the fate of humans, observes the Middle World from the sky, and sometimes gives warning by lightning. Isten created the world with the help of Ördög ("the devil" representing Evil).
The major celestial bodies, (the Sun and the Moon), are also located in the Upper World. The sky was thought to be a big tent held up by the Tree of Life. The several holes in it are the stars. The Sun, Moon, and symbols of the cosmic word, are known from Hungarian grave findings from the period of Hungarian conquest.
Middle Worl
😛
The Middle World is shared among humans and many mythological creatures.
Underworl
😛
The Underworld is the place of bad souls (this includes evil spirits and the souls of dead people who were cruel and evil in their lives) and the home of Ördög, creator of everything bad for humans: for example, annoying animals such as fleas, lice, and flies.

5 interesting facts about Hungary:
1.Hungary is the world’s second leading producer of foie gras (goose liver), after France.
2.The name “Hungary” may very well come from the Medieval Latin Hungaria, which translates as “Land of the Huns.” Another source states that the name is derived from the Turkish words on ogur, meaning “ten arrows,” or “ten peoples.”
3.Budapest is home to the oldest metro line in continental Europe and is the second oldest in the world after London’s Tube.
4.Hungary have public bathing practices that go back to Roman times. The country boasts around 1,500 spas, 450 of which are public.
5.The word “coach” derives from the name of the Hungarian town Kocs, where the multi-passenger wheeled vehicle first appeared around 1500.
My 5 words when I hear about Hungary:
#horses,#rivalry,#hunting,#Budapest,#goulash

I'll read it carefully
sure thing...I found it and tought it would be really interesting ..kinda remembered me of norse mythology in a way but clearly is not the same
Not the same, although you are right that the legends of the nations resemble each other at some level.
I learned a lot from the life tree in a long way, I'm telling my children. But this is a good time to re-think what I've forgotten about it 🙂
the tree is the one that remembered me of the norse mythology 😛
not that many cultures talking about a tall tree that sits in the middle of the universe 🙂
🙂 If I have enough time to read, I was dealing with the mythologies of the various countries, but this was more than 20 years ago. It's time... 🙂
