Minister of Industry Report 18/02/09 to 05/03/09
Joey Development Scheme
Hello citizens! patti11 here!
Thanks to corny
Under a week ago corny-ratbag retired from politics due to RL commitments leaving Cottus to pick a new Minister of Industry which is obviously me (was Minister of Finance but now my Deputy Deilos has taken the reins so good luck mate!). I would just like to pay respects to all of corny's hard worker and say thanks for his achievements, most notably GM records and the citizen script.
New Minister, New Ideas
I plan to get straight into fixing our ailing economy which has inflation at over 100%. Most of this can be contributed to the skills shortage and GM's offering outrageous wages (you know who you are guys 😉
) which pushes all the wages up. This in turn raises the price of goods and wages must rise. It is a vicious cycle which I plan to end now with the following initiatives.
Max Productivity Scheme
We need to spread workers over companies to help curb this wage war and it is quite selfish for some companies to be hiring 30 or 20 workers (construction exempted). I have drawn up a Max Productivity Scheme, which would work something like this. It still needs some refinement however so stay tuned.
The scheme would warn GM's who post job offers (except skill 0 wages of 1) when they have 15 or more workers already working in the company. A warning will be issued if the company offers jobs for 2 days. After this period has passed a final warning will be issued stating that the company will be boycotted unless the offers are removed in 24 hours. The can either fire workers to get it below 15 or at 15 or face a government issued boycott until they do. Workers in that company will be PMed and asked to move as well. Companies can apply for an exception with a valid reason and myself and Cottus will decide if the request is granted.
The goal of this scheme is to spread workers across companies which will ease the demand for them. This will bring wages down and in turn prices overall benefiting everyone.
GM Records
My goal by the end of my term is for every single GM to be using this fine tool (can be found here). GM records makes it easy to track profits and workers, and suggests a wage for them based on your profit aim and current price. I urge all GM's who aren't using it to use it now. If you have trouble using it PM me or corny-ratbag.
How to be a GM
Myself and corny-ratbag will soon be offering courses on how to be a successful GM. Stay tuned for more on this.
Wage Warnings
Warnings have already been issued to companies offering outrageous wages. You should be offering wages expecting someone to apply with a wellness of 50 so if workers with higher apply you can raise them to appropriate levels.
Be Loyal
This one is directed at you, the workers. Loyalty to your GM pays off trust me. Tecchi has been working in Woolworths for months and I have a new found respect in him as a player. If there was higher wages on the market Tecchi would warn me and I would adjust his for him to stay or if I couldn't gift him as compensation. So workers, be a Tecchi and let your GM love you!
The Marketplace
Another one of my duties as Minister of Industry is to monitor the market and look after Medicare Gifts, Medicare Diamonds and the National Medical Research Cntr (our Q5 hospital company formerly Med-el). The Hospital company needs 10000 wood just to make 1 hospital and as such is looking to private companies to provide this. The catch is, we will only buy wood for 1AUD per unit (eg Q2 wood would be 2AUD max). This price should allow comfortable profits yet fair on construction GM's. I would like to commend Aussie Wood Mill for offering wood at 1.65AUD for Q2. Well done mate!
Grain and Diamonds
Now the bad news and I am looking at the grain and diamonds market. Grain prices are at around 0.6 per unit which is very bad for a high region. Prices should be AT MOST 0.5AUD. Don't say it isn't possible just look at Aussie Wood Mill, half there unit cost of 0.87 and you get 0.43AUD. Not good enough guys. I would however thank People's Grain True Blue Grain who have been selling at under 0.5AUD. Thank you. To all you other GM's I want a full explanation to why you are selling at such high prices and remember use GM records!
Now on to diamonds which to say the least is a disaster. Current market diamonds sell for at the cheapest 0.86AUD a unit in a HIGH region. Like grain, this should be at 0.50AUD MAX. This is despicable guys and I expect an explanation aswell.
Summary
- Thanks corny!
- Don't hire more then 15 workers without a request!
- Use GM records!
- How to be a GM course (soon!)
- Watch your wages GM's!
- Workers be a Tecchi, be loyal!
- Wood companies, I will only be buying wood at max 1AUD
- Grain and Diamond companies, I am watching you carefully and I want explanations!
Thanks for reading guys and I leave you with a lasting line you will constantly hear me say...
Are you using GM records?
Thanks guys,
Patti11

People's Grain is always pleased to help
I see you change the hospital company name GO patti 😃
Well...I understand the need to curb inflation , but these proposals come dangerously close to undermining a lot of peoples civil rights . Who gave the government the right to issue boycotts ? Most aussies will willingly comply for the good of the nation , but when it comes to depriving anybody of their civil rights , I will fight to the last .
Bilbarus
A truly competant minister
thanks vincent 😃
@bil: hopefully GM's do comply for the good of the nation and I sincerely hope to not issue a single boycott during my term as MoI. However, I will do what needs to be done to protect citizens and boycotts will only be handed out to the worst of the worst GM's. I hope you understand where I am coming from with this and with freedom comes great responsibility to do the right thing.
Gold is created out of thin air, whenever someone achieves a certain accomplishment or purchases gold with RL money. Therefore, inflation will always be based on the whims of achievers and real life spenders.
Secondly, New World inflation is calculated based on the rise in prices of all goods sold over a seven day period.
To panic and institute these extreme measures based on a seven day trend is silly. To do so based on an uncontrollable metric is pointless.
The best way to you to "fix" what you see as an ailing economy is to get out the way and stop making laughable empty threats.
The moment a government feels justified in depriving even one citizen of his civil rights , that government has crossed the thin red line . There is no gray area . Either we respect the rights of one and all , or we don't .
Bilbarus
@ambrose: on your first point that is true, and as such inflation under 50% is quite normal. Inflation at 100% isn't and the fact that prices of goods doubled in one week which is no undoubtedly can put the blame on too high wages among other things. If you have been paying attention last week inflation was around 80% and the week before that 60-80%.
Simply leaving the market in its current state will end badly, as wages will rise causing prices to rise and devaluing our dollar (which was at 50AUD and now is around 54AUD).
@Bil: Like I said, I hope I don't have to issue a boycott but if one GM is offering wages which can destabilse the economy it is my right as a Minister to protect the citizens of this great country.
and it is not a right of ANY nation to:
1. Undermine an economy, regarless of nature
2. Exploit
3. Profiteer
also Ambrose, our MoI is the best in the field, some respect?
Very well done
@ patti 11 - Please understand , it is governments self appointed authority to issue boycotts that I object to , not your good intentions . NOBODY , right or left , ever voted to give the government this authority .
Bilbarus
i am reworking my wood company to sell at 1AUD, sadly i have had to lower wagers, though i was paying my workers about current market wages.
if there is a market i can upgrade my wood company to Q2 (if i sold all my AUD on MM market) though i would have to get rid of all people below skill level 3 to make it worth while?
i agree with patti all the way.
i say i dont want out economy to become like Indonesias there dollar is really rare right now, and there wages are soooo high that they can hardly even make profit in there companies and that means the prices of the market get more expensive
@taytaz - Respect and criticism are not mutually exclusive.
@Ambrose - I think you are a clever person, so I respect what you say however we need to see the consequences that will follow a completely free market. We are trying to protect Australian companies that are doing the right thing. We do not want to let the acts of a small number of selfish companies ruin the fun of other genuine company owners.
I agree with the marketeers - the way to reduce prices is to increase competition. If the game artificially restricts competition (which it may coz I'm a noob and don't understand everything yet) then governments need to step in and place restrictions. (In that case forget civil rights coz it's a game and there's already rules restricting them)
But if it's left as a free market, then those products making high profit will naturally encourage new players and so it should even out.
Point 2 - high inflation is in itself not a disaster..
Patti, tell me you didn't seriously mean this threat against GMs and their Corporations:
"Like I said, I hope I don't have to issue a boycott but if one GM is offering wages which can destabilse the economy it is my right as a Minister to protect the citizens of this great country."
You know I will not support such actions in the Senate against private enterprise within this country.
then you're in the wrong party
This has all the hallmarks of a political witchhunt. What we're seeing here is politics every much as grubby as Canberra. Why am I not surprised to see him praising companies owned by members of the government's party & the condemnation of a company owned by a opposition party member.
@ Taytaz - It dosen't suprise me to see a communist supporting totalatarian measures by the government . But comming from the ADSP it's a bit of a shocker .
Bilbarus
@AW: i said commend not condemn about Aussie Wood Mills they are opposite meanings.
@Xave: it was worded wrongly and for that I apoligise. A boycott will be issued in the most extreme circumstances where wages posted by a GM stuff teh economy up.
@Bil: even with a boycott companies are still free to post whatever they like we are not banning them. We would publish an article saying this company has unrealistica wages and is having a detrimental effect on the market.
1. I am not a member of patti's party
2. Bilbarus, for my sake, stop these lies and scare tactics. You will just piss me off with your ignorance. Communism is hardly totalitarian, onsidering it is an ECONOMIC system!
I support fairness, it is fair for the governemt to support citizens if others are ruining the economy. You voted in my Socialist cousins, you get what they got
Boycotts are voluntary so if you don't want to follow it that is your decision
could someone please buy my remaining wood so i can upgrade
bought
@SS: mate that's the case in rl. You have to remember that eRep, while it attempts to replicate rl, just does'nt work like that.
Doomed to failure - Governments should keep out of the market, governments serve the people, not the other way round. There are more incentives in place for people and companies to distribute wealth and grow the economy than goverments will ever have.
Small government needs to be real!
wow a public health agency implementing an economic stimulus of sorts. Australia truly is a very dynamic place 😛
Yes
The government is serving the people, the proletariat, by making sure the upper class do not exploit andbprofiteer. It's not serving the people who want to make ridiculous money out of disempowered workers. Tbh, this is nowhere near enough in terms of action
When did the communists take over the ADSP? This is so close to nationalising industries, it's not funny.
The government would be better placed making sure there is sufficient competition in each industry to ensure prices remain low, rather than setting arbitrary prices.
Why not provide grants for company start-ups, rather than intefering with the internal workings of markets.
@Alarashan: don't you see with all these schemes they all try to help the people not the government!
Hahaha
This coming close to nationalisation!
What a joke
No way
There is still the step of government regulator first
From my understanding the ADSP is the Australian DEMOCRATIC socialist party
Please Patti, tell me, where is the democracy in boycotting companys and imposing market prices without so much as a vote?
voti in a socialist majority and then a socialist president
A boycott is a measure taken at the disgrrssion of the Minister, this is his job
Wow, this is pretty sweet. We couldn't even contemplate going this far in eRussia.
I love this country
I will say that the measures presented, in the form of boycotts, were not presented in the senate and have been enacted by the PM and MoI (in their "official" capacity - Not as ADSP Members).
Like I've said elsewhere, I think it's very important to "educate" GMs on how to properly run their business. But I do think that inflation should be controlled (look at eIndonesia for an example of a "free/unmanaged market"). And as it's already been pointed out, boycotts will only be used in the more extreme circumstances.
How dow you try and control prices! How dare you sir! This is completely outrageous and completely against the market at all! This is ludicrous in every sense of the word! Who has given you the right to control wages? I am standing by my fellow members of the ANP and Xavier. Put this to a vote in the Senate. You have no right to control wages.
'How dow you try and control prices! How dare you sir! This is completely outrageous and completely against the market at all! '
What's that? Could it possibly be a SOCIALIST government exercising some market control and going against private enterprise? Well shoot me down, 'cos last time I looked that's kinda what socialists do. The people voted in a socialist government so, in my opinion, it gives a socialist prime minister and a socialist minister the mandate to exercise some market control and limit private industry.
Oh and guys I can understand why you are screaming about civil liberties etc.
But how is it fair that a tiny minority of the population (GMs) jeopardise the economy and savings of the proletariat through their own selfish actions? Don't let yourselves fall to the tyranny of the minority. That's just elitism.
I WOULD be against the curbing of GM rights if it wasn't for the fact that their actions affect us all, the minority should not have the right to screw things up for the majority. It's kinda like the credit crunch, or whatever you call it, a small minority in the bankers screwed everything up for everyone - that could have been stopped with more regulations and government control, hopefully any screwing up of the economy will be stopped by these measures.
calibur: i released teh boycott scheme in the cabinet 1 day before this article to get ideas and you MADE no comment on it, I assume you agreed the EXTREME measure was needed in the most EXTREME circumstance.
I quote myself here:
'It still needs some refinement however so stay tuned.'
This is NOT set in stone it was a basic plan cottus and myself drew up in preparation for this article. You think we would release a boycott without mentioning it in the senate let alone the cabinet?
please ANP, see reason. Why should the whole country suffer if one GM isn't being responsible?
Yeah. the only other person to comment it was taytaz. Give us some time here. At least 2 days to read things. I have jobs to do as well and I don't get much of a chance to read things at once. 😛
For those who don't know, Democratic Socialism is 'soft' Communism. Basically it's a pre-Communist stage where a country is deemed to be not ready for the next step but steps are made to make it ready.
The next step is Communism. Here the political & actual terminology gets mixed up. Technically Communism is the decree to make a country into a Socialist society but where the process isn't yet complete.
The final step is Socialism. It's the ultimate goal for all Commies. Here the government has complete & absolute control over all economic affairs & you ain't even able to earn a income to feed your children without permission from the government. The eRepublic equivient should be easy enough to understand.

Ask taytaz says, "voti (sic) in a socialist majority and then a socialist president". "You voted in my Socialist cousins".
When you do these things, the result is going to be socialism. If you don't want it then you shouldn't vote for them.
Ah, someone read the Manifesto. Very good.
Quite simply, inflating wages will inflate the price of goods.
There is very, very, very good reason why min. wage is $1, and goods cost very little (ie approx 1-2 x Q = Food cost).
If we had a minimum wage of $10 AUD, and goods costing about 10x what they do now, then foreign companies will flood the market and destroy us. If an importer sells for $2, and we do for $10.... I rest my case.
We're not controlling the market.... we're ensuring our economy isn't ruined by foreign investors.
No. your controlling the market. your telling GM's they can't have a certain wage.
Cottus, there are other ways to curb inflation without forcing GMs to run their companys according to extreemly restrictive government regulations.
For example a single govenment run company in an industry selling for a fair price does the same job as you over zealous regulations which essentially turn every company into a government company. But this way GMs can still decide their own wages and prices, they just have to remain competitive.
I congratulate you on your "GM course" and GM records (although imo it could be a lot more user friendly and trivia is now redundant) and I see these as positive influences to the economy which help the GM decide what to do, rather than telling him what he can and cant do.
Civil liberties and a free market are of upmost importance, there are plenty of ways to curb inflation without restricting either.
free market
bah
Oligarchical Market more like it
No matter how hard you try to analyse this boycotting, it is very democratic and these "civil liberties" you speak of are still protected.
1. The people of Australia voted DEMOCRATICALY for ADSP to control the majority of the senate, thus allowing us to implement our policies (this being one of them)
2. The senate will DEMOCRATICALY discuss and then vote for whether to boycott the company after refusal to comply with government demands
- thus a public govt. statement is made, outlining the implications such a high wage structure would have on Australias Economy
3. The Australian people (and businesses) DEMOCRATICALLY vote again, with their purchases this time, to actually enforce the boycott.
Ultimately, the government cant enforce a boycott. They have no power to stop a company from running unethically. Only the Australian people can.
How democratic and fair is that! The people decide for THEMSELVES for what they think is right and wrong for the country! The government simply supplies inside information to them so they can make an informed decision.
pwnt
1. Price/wage fixing was never listed as an ADSP policy during the elections
2. This was never mentioned in the report, and makes me feel somewhat better about this proposal
3. I'm sure if you had the power to, you would have no problem shutting down the company and leaving the public without a choice, fortunatly the game mechanics do not allow for this
1. Price wage fixing is not an ADSP policy
2. Good
3. How would you possibly know that?
