[MdC] A Língua Materna Brasileira
On February 21, we celebrated the International Mother Language Day, an event proclaimed by UNESCO in 1999.
The Brazilian Government has taken the liberty of inviting several countries of the World to create articles telling a little about the history of its language, its culture, its roots. We are very grateful to all who have contributed to this project, which want to bring a lot of culture to our players. The articles will be published in real time below, as they are release
😛
The Brazil of the indians, speakers of Tupi-Guarani, was discovered by Portugal in year 1500 and with this gained a great portuguese influence in all their culture. The Portuguese language was rooted in the Brazilian soil, absorbing and disappearing gradually with native languages like the Tupi-Guarani. That was forbidden to be used in 1757, allowing in 1759 the Portuguese was oficial language in Brazil.
Well, if we speak the same language, why are we so difficult to understand what our Portuguese colleagues talk?
The Portuguese in Brazil received a vast indigenous vocabulary, mainly for denominations of fauna and flora. African dialects, brought by the slaves, also contributed to the construction of our language. After our independence in 1822, we also received great influence from Spaniards, Dutch and other countries who migrated to the New World in search of better conditions.
It is important to emphasize the existence of the orthographic reform of the Portuguese, which completes 10 years in 2019 and help to standardize the writing of the Portuguese. Today, Brazil represents 80% of the 250 million people who speak Portuguese. Portugal, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique, East Timor, São Tomé and Princípe and Equatorial Guinea complete the percentage.
So, for you, we speak Portuguese or Brazilian?

Nevertheless, is it named Brazilian "Portuguese", right?
A rethoric question above. I know it's a set of Portuguese dialects.
I'm Romanian, so I understand it pretty much.
officially, I dont think so. The correct writing is of Portuguese (in thesis) the same for all countries, so it is the same language. but in "real life", in our day, speaking/writing in internet, it is so different that we call it Brazilian Portuguese. (Even eRepublick have a PT-BR and a PT version)
Yes, when we translate the costume its call Brazilian portuguese.
But in day of day, we use only "portuguese". Brazilian portuguese its more for translates.
It's almost the same as the difference between American English and British English. Main differences are accent and some ways to pronounce stuff.
Also, we (portuguese) like to speak with a lot of closed vowels so it makes it harder for our brazilian brothers to understand what we say.
V+ 🙂

Hahaha we talk portuguede, but when we translate we costume says Brazilian portuguese.
