Letter to Plato

Dear Plato,

I have started playing eRepublik in January 2017, so I am still a beginner in this game. I still don't know anything about the Economic & Politics modules, and I have no strategy with my battles. I usually fight for FF and RH medals. Since I started this game, I found out that you are not liked by many. But somehow, they are still here. I didn't get the chance to actually know you and make my own opinion, but for now I will consider you a friend and all I want is to share some thoughts. Not all of them nice, but hey, what are friends for if not to tell you exactly how they feel and what they think, right?

I wrote in one of my first articles that things seem to be dusty around here. They were, and if not for an event now and then, they would be all the time. I cannot complain about all the things that didn't improve, nor about what new ideas should have been put into practice, like many people do, because, unlike so many others, I've been around for only 10 months. But I can thank you for something. You thought about this eWorld and offered it to us. It didn't come cheap for many, but it was their choice to put so much money (or time) into it. It's not a perfect world, but there is no such thing as perfect. Nobody forces us to be here. Yes, it's really frustrating for somebody new in the game, and you don't offer us many possibilities. We have no other option than to fight side by side with people that are 10 times or 20 times stronger than us. You probably haven't seen this comic strip I made for a contest that was never brought to an end. I feel the same way about it like I said it back then, but... Yes, there is a “but”. Even frustrating so many times, even if not easy to win a medal, even if there is not much I can do, when I actually succeed in getting medals, I feel really happy about it. I still remember the first time I won a BH medal. It was on my RL birthday. This is what I wrote about it in “My b-day and after b-day presents in eRepublik” article at that time:

“So, upset that I didn’t succeed in gaining my first BH medal, I chose another war, started shooting and hoped for the best. I got to around 5.000.000 damage (with more than 70 hits), it was the last minute of the fight and this guy comes from the woods. He was making a bit more than 500.000 damage with a single hit. I was sure I won’t get the medal this time either and… the battle ended! Refresh and there it was! MY FIRST BH MEDAL! Happy birthday to me, indeed. 😃 (that guy had around 1.500.000 damage from only 3 hits. I was really lucky the battle ended in time)”

I know this game should not be all about medals, it should be about politics, alliances and meaningful battles. Well, it’s not. I don’t know how it was 10 years ago, but now it seems to be only about the number of medals one has. As for me? I reached 33 BH medals today and I’m so happy about it. I almost stole two medals yesterday from “bigger” guys, without wanting to do so (I still feel bad about it). I don’t want to be that person, I leave that to others.

One more thing you did here without any intention of doing it, in fact the most important one. You created this world in which a really nice community (or more, I only know one) came to life. This game would be nothing without the interactions we have with each other, without the help and support from the experienced ones, without trying to have some fun in a game that has little to do with “fun”.

I was so surprised to see passionate people putting so much effort and energy into offering to this community these moments of entertainment, and now I’m referring to Clopoyaur and his streams. One of my first articles was about his show. It seems that you liked it since you endorsed it with 50 GOLD. I was amazed. I didn’t even know that such a thing was possible. 50 GOLD for an article!!! It was a treasure for me. I never thanked you for that, but you should know that I appreciated a lot. And many great shows followed, including the 10th year eRepublik anniversary a few days ago. You offered so many prizes, and the 10.000 GOLD pyramid was fantastic. It was another great example of what this community can do. It wasn’t easy to make it to the top, you probably thought we wouldn’t succeed, but we did it. And you had to pay. 🙂

So, dear Plato, while people are complaining that nothing is being done in this game, that all you do is getting richer and richer every day, the same people continue to fight their battles, win medals and spend their money on stashes and packs. Nothing to worry about.

That being said, I would like to finish by letting you know that for me personally this 10th year anniversary is really great. I can’t compare it with the previous years, and maybe that is why. I succeeded in winning around 10 medals in just a few days. So, I can only be happy about it. Yes, everything is extremely expensive now on the market, but at least you can feel the action in the air, and not the dust. I’ll leave it to the ones that know what they are talking about to complain of the game, and in the end, I’ll just wish you Happy Anniversary!
