The changes have been made! All stock values are now tied to the values of real world stocks. Read the FAQ for more information.
Because of this change, I am giving you all a chance to reinvest/pull your money out. If you check the Stock Market sheet, you will see that you have no stocks, but a money value next to your ID. This is the value of all your stocks. If you wish to pull out your money, please pm me saying so. If you want to reinvest, fill out the form, and however much money you have credited to you will go towards your next investments. For more information, read the FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:
How do the markets work?
Please note: Calculations are made every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. An article is released detailing these calculations each time.
The value of every stock is tied to the value of a stock in real life. This was done to create more variance in the stock so that the game is more fun. The real life stocks will remain unknown, and their rounded values will be the value for every stock name.
Where did all my stocks go?
Because of this recent change, I am giving you all a chance to reinvest. I have calculated the value of all your stocks, and given you that value next to your investor ID. You can either pm me asking for all that money, or reinvest and the price of your reinvestment will be deducted from the money counter by your investor ID.
Why did my stocks change?
Stocks change based on the value of the real life stock it is tied to. To see what people are buying and selling, check out tinyurl.com/doi-stock-logs
What does all this information mean?
Stock value - Value of stock
Value change - Value that the stock has changed by since the last article
How do I see my stocks?
The first time you invest you are sent your investor ID. If you go to the second page of tinyurl.com/doi-stock-logs and look for your ID, you will see the stocks you own.
How is my money safe?
All transactions are logged through Google Docs. Each time you fill out the form, it is documented in a secure sheet (i.e. it can't be modified). All monetary transactions and holdings are double checked against this sheet, ensuring that nobody can falsely report anything. The sheet is managed by an entire team, and all information is checked by multiple people. In short, unless someone can hack Google, your cc is safe.

Disclaimer: This is a Department of Interior program, and is solely designed to make the game more enjoyable. It is not an attempt to replace the current economic system. Based on how you invest, you can lose money. The value of the stocks will fluctuate, making it very possible that you could lose money in the process of investing.
Comments
Once again, there is nothing to base wise investments upon. It is not helpful that this is tied to "real stocks" because there is no understanding of what affects the valuation of any given stock. It could be arbitrarily valued week to week and it would be the same level of investor intelligence, except possibly avoiding some degree of insider trading.
Ultimately there has to be either a true supply/demand dynamic or other known market-based valuation.
That's perfectly reasonable. What do you think would help change that?
You'd be better off adding a bunch of fake investors to your old system to force the market to fluctuate. RP it as things that affect markets in RL. But to base it off a shadow company with no information about history or conditions affecting the stock is silly and turns it into a game of chance rather than investing.
What the heck??? You are reporting that none of the stocks increased in value --- "Value change: $0"... But you actually did increase their values and VERY significantly
Increase: $13.00 $11.00 $4.00 $9.00 -$7.00 $0.00
Percentage change: 61.90% 68.75% 19.05% 52.94% -53.85% 0.00%
When I see promoters arbitrarily increasing someone's investment by 69% in three days, I can't help but ask "who was the investor profiting from that?"
No one is buying or selling. It's all being reset apparently.
there have been a few purchases actually. That isn't the point though. The accounting is horrible. It obscures the cash flows. As usual however - no probs if everyone is having fun.
It's a complete reset, so all the value changes are $0
I need to sell mine soon hopefully
Your stocks are all sold for you. If you wish to reinvest them, you can. You can also pull your money out.
I'll pull my money out
What if I forgot my investor ID, and erep ate the PM? 😕
Sending your ID to you now 🙂
Thanks 🙂
So this is gambling that a random, unknown stock will rise.
Got it.
Your opinion was asked for in the last article, and I didn't get it. I followed what the majority recommended.
Oh well, can't argue with that. It's still silly.
How is this any different from gambling right now? Perhaps change "the wolf of wall street" to "Dan Mahowny" to make it fit better 😛
where are the balance sheets...
"The value of every stock is tied to the value of a stock in real life. This was done to create more variance in the stock so that the game is more fun. The real life stocks will remain unknown, and their rounded values will be the value for every stock name."
oh wait, nvm... so we're gambling... yep
Again, your opinion was asked, and I was told people preferred this. If you didn't want this to happen, you could have said something.
Index, I understand you are doing all you can, but that response is not helpful. It is accomplishing the opposite of what you want with this program. Unfortunately you may be hearing the wrong thing in regards to how to affect change.
@index, yea, that isn't really a good response... media isn't really your forte. "If you didn't want this to happen, you could have said something." just sounds rude.
And my opinion was stated in the first article published by the DoI in which "Stocks" were mentioned. I requested Balance Sheets, Income Statements, Etc. I was told that there wasn't any since they were IPOs... in which is an invalid answer since IPOs release their financial docs as required by the SEC.
here is a way to use your "tied to real stocks" idea in a slightly different way, which may be more palateable.
The present, basic, problem is that there is no way to determine if you are just making it up: there is no way to verify your values. I understand your problem however. If you tell everyone "Stock B" will be tied to "IBM commons" investors will simply wait for the last moment and plunk on the stock if IBM goes up in the RealWorld. SO: you need to make it such that investors do CANNOT know the value of IBM when they invest BUT they can verify its value AFTERWARDS. The secret therefore is to have the erep's stock value vary in relation to the IBM's value TWO DAYS LATER. Or something like that. In this way you can reveal the mechanism at work, investors can verify and you achieve transparency. You need good bookeeping. It also injects a bit of skill which might be attractive. Only one of a number of possibilities. It has downsides of course including a significant loss of liquidity.

Yup
deleted comment. Thanks, Index! I would like to re-invest. Wth, why not? 😛
Glad to hear it 🙂 I appreciate it buddy
I remember saying this was a bad idea a few articles ago. I've kept a close eye on it and still believe that today.
Never Forget AidenAstrup
been much more pleased with 11austin's thing. Still hoping I can make a buck or two off this.
