The Legend of Stingy Jack

People have been making jack-o'-lanterns at Halloween for centuries. The practice originated from an Irish legend about a man nicknamed Stingy Jack. According to the story, Stingy Jack invited the Devil to have a drink with him. True to his name, Stingy Jack didn't want to pay for his drink, so he convinced the Devil to turn himself into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to keep the money and put it into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form. Jack eventually freed the Devil, under the condition that he would not bother Jack for one year and that, should Jack die, he would not claim his soul. The next year, Jack again tricked the Devil into climbing into a tree to pick a piece of fruit. While he was up in the tree, Jack carved a sign of the cross into the tree's bark so that the Devil could not come down until the Devil promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years.

Soon after, Jack died. As the legend goes, God would not allow such an unsavory figure into heaven. The Devil, upset by the trick Jack had played on him and keeping his word not to claim his soul, would not allow Jack into hell. He sent Jack off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and has been roaming the Earth with ever since. The Irish began to refer to this ghostly figure as Jack of the Lantern, and then, simply Jack O'Lantern.

In Ireland and Scotland, people began to make their own versions of Jack's lanterns by carving scary faces into turnips or potatoes and placing them into windows or near doors to frighten away Stingy Jack and other wandering evil spirits. In England, large beets are used. Immigrants from these countries brought the jack o'lantern tradition with them when they came to the United States. They soon found that pumpkins, a fruit native to America, make perfect jack-o'-lanterns.

October 31 - World Savings Day

World Savings Day & eWorld Giveaway for My 3rd eBirthday

Here is a theme song for this article:
Shania Twain - When

So, during 3 years of me playing eRepublik, how much I have earned and how much I have saved?

My shiny medal collection

There are 96 medals won on my account, 5 gold each, which makes 480 Gold. As I am now level 48, that's 47 levels passed, which makes another 47 gold (at least). In total that makes 527 Gold at least, that's almost 15 gold of income per month all together during the last 36 months just from the medals. I should also mention other profits from companies, salary or trade, which I estimate to be at least the same as those from the medals.
So, let's say I have earned around 1000 Gold in eRepublik during all 3 years of my eLife. Here I should also mention that I haven't bought any gold for RL money in eRep (yet).

As I have mostly invested gold in companies during my e-life, I don't have much gold on my e-account (less than 15 gold), but have gathered a collection of 54 companies. That investment was worth around 900 gold. Today I could get for all my companies between 450 and 500 gold if dissolved them or sold them on the market. Some of you might even remember the time in eRepublik when investing in companies was worth the trouble. Now there are a bit more profitable ways for investment.

During the last year I've started to invest in training centers and have invested around 285 gold (3x95,2 gold) in T1, T2 and T4 training centers. I can get for them almost the same amount (give or TAKE 6😵, which is 255 gold to be exact.

How am I doing now?

Companies are not so profitable any more and bring me around a gold per day (could be more or closer to 2 Gold per day if Croatia had any wep bonuses), but I spend the most on weapons, so I save around 0.2 gold per day. That makes 6 Gold per month. Training centers and HW medals bring the most of earnings; 23 gold per month, to be precise. And that makes total 53 gold per month. I need 18 Q7 weapon per day and that's roughly around 20 gold per month for Q7 weapons. That leaves me with around 30 gold per month, a gold per day in average.

Enjoy The Crisis - Go Shopping

So, I have earned around 1000 gold, have saved around 700 gold and have spent the rest on food, weapons, training and moving around with or without, tickets (remember them?). Not too bad, but I believe that I am just an ordinary player, not much better, not much worse than the most. Though, it could be that I am a bit conservative in spending money, both in eRep and in RL.

And what about you?
How much do you earn and save, both in eRep or in RL?
Please, tell me your stories... Share and save the memories...
Rool of 72 / Pravilo 72

The ‘Rule of 72′ is a simple way to determine how long an investment will take to double, given a fixed annual rate of interest. By dividing 72 by the annual rate of return, investors can get a rough estimate of how many years it will take for the initial investment to double itself.

The Rool of 72
Arthur Schopenhauer's quote on wealth:

And still men are a thousand times more intent on becoming rich than on acquiring culture, though it is quite certain that what a man is contributes much more to his happiness than what he has.
Arthur Schopenhauer

A few more quotes from Arthur Schopenhauer on money and wealth:

Money is like seawater. The more we drink, the thirstier we become.

Money is human happiness in the abstract; he, then, who is no longer capable of enjoying human happiness in the concrete devotes himself utterly to money.

It is manifestly a wiser course to aim at the maintenance of our health and the cultivation of our faculties, than at the amassing of wealth; but this must not be mistaken as meaning that we should neglect to acquire an adequate supply of the necessaries of life.

If there is anything in the world that can really be called a man's property, it is surely that which is the result of his mental activity.

- 1939. i 2. svjetski rat. Unatoč tome štednja ima svoje prednosti. I tako se tradicija i smisao štednje održala sve do danas. Štedimo novac, vrijednosti, resurse, energiju i slično.
