ANZAC DAY
Henry the 8th
I would just like to say a short message in honour of our fallen comrads.
We all tend to take life for granted sometimes not knowing what some of us have done for this great country to make it what it is today. War is an ugly side of life and unfortunately it seems to be an ongoing treachery that hopefully one day it will only be in written in history books and not in real life.
Many good people have fought and died for what they have believed in to help their friends, family and country become stronger, safer and hopefully free from evil.
My own grandfather served in World War 2 as a commander of 13 armoured cars (tanks with wheels) of which he lost many friends right before his own eyes, telling me of stories that could crumble even the strongest of spirits. R.I.P. Grandpa.
My heart and sorrow goes out to all those that have fought or still fight for what they believe in to make this world a better place.
Lest we forget

Good atricle Bro, what a shame humans have such short memories, to make the same mistakes over and over again is our curse. Hence, Lest We Forget.
Nice work and nice comment carl.
My Granddad hated the war and tried to avoid a fighting position by being a medic. He had to decide between which soldiers were the worst off and they had to leave, and which they could have room for.
He got captured and sent to a prison camp for some time and then hid in some mountains in Italy with their help. When he got back he didn't collect his medal because he had to pay for the cap he was issued and lost in the prison camp.
A soldier is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank cheque made payable to their country for an amount up to, and including, their life! That is an honour, and there are way too many people in this country (Australia) today who no longer understand that fact! If you are thankful for your freedom. ...THANK A SOLDIER
my respect, and thanks to all the men and women who stood by the motherland (a cold wet rock) when we needed you most.
well Australia isnt really that cold, usually I bake here.
On this day I always think of my great-grandfather who was known by all as Tich. His first battle on the western front was also his last, it was the dreadful battle of Fromelles where we lost more men to death and more men taken prisoner than any other battle in our history
. Thankfully Tich was not among the dead, he was among the many thousands of Aussies left high and dry when the other allied nations failed to keep up with them. The Aussies were too successful, as were the New Zealanders, they punched such a gigantic hole into German held territory but the Brits and French did not cover their flanks and the Germans cut well over 10000 troops from their lines. The ANZACS were forced to surrender, it was a military disaster but also it was a bad day for Germany, the path of destruction caused by the massive ANZAC advance left many dead on both sides. Fromelles is still our darkest moment.
