The end of an era

Day 729, 11:46 Published in Serbia Portugal by Arthk

Over a year ago, on August the 27th, the charter of PEACE GC was first unveiled publically. Five days ago a New Charter was proposed at the Security Council. Today is the final day of PEACE’s time in eRepublik; effective immediately the alliance is formally dissolved.

Today is not a day of sadness, however, but a day of celebration. Do not remember this day. Remember WSR. Remember California, Ontario, Vojvodina. We achieved great things, after such a cursed birth; Hungary under attack, Mexico taken over by Spaniards, Romania ascendant and conquering all nations in sight. All good things come to an end, however, and PEACE GC is no exception. We have seen the heavens and we have seen hell. It is time to call it a day on this adventure, and begin afresh.

Who can we attribute all this success to? You. You, the citizens of the world. I thank each and every one of you for your service; you have helped us do amazing things, and will do so again in the future, of that I am sure. The people who have worked so hard to keep things working over the past 442 days; Presidents, strategists, advisors and Secretary Generals would not have been able to do what we did without you. Again, thank you.

Why end it?
Since the end of the North American conflict, it has been obvious that PEACE GC has not been operating at the level of co-ordination, power, and just general awesome that had become standard for us over the past several months. Many people put a lot of work into trying to fix the perceived problems; it was too little, too late in the end.

We became complacent; we lost sight of what was important, and let our organisation falter as a result. We over-extended our power, and suffered as a result. However we regret nothing. Mistakes have been made, but that is irrelevant. What is relevant is that we kept going. We did not let things make us stumble, make us falter.

Many players will consider this, the end of PEACE, the ultimate victory in eRepublik; I expect an article with many comments from our enemies saying “epic fail”, or words and phrases to that effect. The only failures here are you. During the time of PEACE, we achieved great things, unimaginable things. We have tasted ultimate power, and known ultimate victory. We have achieved some of the greatest feats to have taken place in this game. We took 50 out of 51 of the USA’s regions. They said it couldn’t be done. They said they’d throw us back into the sea. They were wrong.

The decision has been taken to end the alliance on our own terms, we do not wish for us to die an ATLANTIS style death. Members split in two, potential invasions of people who were, on paper, allies only a week ago. We decided to end it now based on the fact that we had slowly begun to deteriorate and become complacent.

Despite it all we remain friends. This was not an alliance built on fear as some would have you believe, nor even on necessity. We built our successes on our friendship, brotherhood and mutual respect. Nothing can take that away from us; we remain friends, even without a binding contract or alliance name. PEACEkeepers will still roam the world, defending the founding Principles of PEACE, and to serve and protect PEACE member states in these tough times; they will also be there for the phoenix that rises out of the ashes of this great alliance.

It is about our enemies that I would like to talk now. Thank you. Without you we would not have been able to have the great times that we had. From the North American invasion, to the defence of Hungary over a year ago, we would not be here today if it were not for you. By and large you are enemies worthy of our respect; may we meet on the battlefield again soon.

We have changed this New World. Each and every one of us. Every single day we have existed we have shone as a beacon of glory across eRepublik. Widely loved and reviled, we give life to this game of two-clicking and fighting. We give it the massive fights, the stirring propaganda, the culture this game so desperately lacks. We do all of this because we believe in each other and because we believe in ourselves. I love you all.

PEACE at home. PEACE in the world.

It is hard, but it must be done...
