Day 4,530, 06:17 Published in North Korea North Korea by Kimova banka

From the Ministry of Education and Culture of our glorious nation, we want to present you what are going to be a series of articles where we will show you interesting information about other eNations.

This will be part of a devised project called "Travel To"

Our first stop is a small but well-known European country located in the Alps, Switzerland.

Typical song

In this section we can listen to a typical piece of music from this country. We invite you to listen to it while you continue reading the article

Typical dish: Rösti

Switzerland is a country located in the middle of other countries with an important gastronomy, and although it has influence from all of them, many Swiss consider rösti as the national dish.

For many it may seem like a potato omelette, but unlike this Spanish dish, rösti does not have an egg, and you can add other ingredients such as apples, bacon or cheese.

It is a traditional dish and was the breakfast of the old Swiss farmers, and it is that it was traditionally fried with butter, but it was replaced by olive oil.

Traditional festival: The Sechseläuten

The Sechseläuten is a traditional spring festival celebrated in mid-April since the mid-20th century in the city of Zurich.

The climax of the festival is when, after the parade of the Zurich city guilds (established since the 14th century), the Böögg , which is a wooden snowman with the explosive-filled head. The time that the doll burns before the fire reaches said head, traditionally establishes the duration and the summer climate, the faster it occurs, the better the weather will be.

For this year the party is scheduled for April 20.

Tourist or iconic places

Matterhorn

Probably the most famous peak in the Alps for its pyramid shape, although not for height. Every year around 3,000 climbers try to reach its top. Since the first time it was achieved in 1865, not a single year has passed in which no victim has been charged.

It may sound familiar to you because it is the image of a well-known brand of chocolates.

Chillón Castle

This castle of medieval origin is located on the shores of Lake Geneva. With great defensive utility in another era, it is currently a very strong tourist attraction in the area.

There is evidence of the defensive use of the area since the Bronze Age and later by the Romans, also its situation made it suitable for use as a toll, which is believed to be its first use.

Also used as dungeons, famous Swiss passed by them such as François Bonivard, who would inspire the English poet Lord Byron to write the poem "The Prisoner of Chillón".

Kapellbrücke

Kapellbrücke or Chapel Bridge is a covered bridge located in the city of Lucerne, one of the main tourist attractions in that city, and next to the Matterhorn, one of the largest photographed sites in the country.

It is the oldest wooden bridge in Europe, and the second longest. It was built in the 14th century on the Reuss River.

The bridge was longer but suffered a fire that severely damaged it, and that part was removed in the 19th century.

In the middle of the bridge we find a tower ( Wasserturm ) dating from 1300. Throughout history it has performed various functions, such as a watchtower, archive or treasure chamber. It is currently a souvenir shop.

Curiosities

- Switzerland has not participated in any armed conflict since 1815.

- Its flag is square instead of rectangular like that of most other countries.

- Its abbreviation is CH because they are the initials of the Swiss Confederation.

- It has 46 weapons for every 100 inhabitants ...

-... but only an average of 40 murders a year.

- It has four official languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh.

- Prostitution is legal in Switzerland.

Best landscape in the country

Although we have already showed some spectacular images of Switzerland, here we leave another that will not be indifferent:

Let's hope you liked this article and that you have discovered new things about Switzerland.
